A question about the main download links

This might be a really stupid question or I have missed some thread or rule somewhere, but why hasn't the main download link ever worked?

It's listed in the main thread of daily builds with huge text saying 'DOWNLOAD'. I really must be missing something.
Since the day I signed in here, that link has never ever worked, only the unpatched build mirrors work. I thought it was a temporary glitch but no. Tell me how stupid I am right now?

Ookay, thanks. My main question remains. Why is the main sticky thread pointing still to an ancient version?

To find the current download can be made more difficult, but not in so many ways. Like if you come to doom9.org and CTRL+F for h264/x264 you find absolutely nothing. And when you get to the forum, the first thread you find (a sticky) points to an ancient location. Hmm?

Because nobody is bothering to keep it updated :p

Furthermore there is no "main" download site and there never was such a site. Since the beginning of time the x264 project didn't offer any pre-compiled binaries!

They only offer source codes. And thus the one and only "official" x264 web-site is:

Everybody can either build x264 from the sources or pick one of the various pre-compiled (but "unofficial") binaries that have been contributed by various people.

You will find pre-compiled builds of the latest x264 revision by following this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=130364) thread. Make sure you look at the latest posts in that thread...

I see your point. Sharktooth simply didn't update the first post in that thread "as completely as" he should have done. :rolleyes: Sadly there still are TONS of info @ doom9.org which haven't been duly updated in years. :(

I'm a regular visitor here so I keep track of latest posts in all sections of my interest. However, I do understand the confusion of novice visitors like acdarc and therefore would also recommend to make the thread that Lord Mulder mentioned as new sticky one instead of the old Sharktooth's one.
