Question -

I'm currently running win98 se. Running pretty stable. Using DVD2SVCD with absolutely NO PROBLEMS. Works Great.

Thinking about moving to either win2k Pro or Win xp Pro.

Any suggesstions?

(before you blast me that this is the wrong forum, wait... you guys seem to know as much about this sh** any of the other forums.)(compliment!)

Should I expect any probs with DVD2SVCD by moving to any of these platforms.

My System is:
Soyo KV7VTA - B
900 MHZ T-bird
256 ram
ATI Radeon AIW 32 meg
SCSI Yamaha CDRW
12X DVD Rom
60 gig External Firewire Drive
20 gig 5500 ide
30 gig 5500 ide

TIA for your suggestions

Mitch

I have both and I prefer XP.
No problems at all.
As long as you have current hardware drivers should be no issue.
Both, for me anyway, have been stable.
A buddy uses AOL and he has issues with their software on XP.

Yes I also have both operating systems and I prefer XP..

I have most of the operating systems win95-XP and i'd say tho windows 2000 I had been using for over 6 Months ANd i've been using XP since November I liked it better then 2000 after 5 minutes of use:) Maybe because i'm also a gamer and require a system that uses directx8.1 to the fullest and I find with my tests anyways that games and just about everything else runs faster then any other operating system i've use..so in my eyes thats a big bonus:)

That is true with both my machines..this is just my tests and i'm sure others have different views...but for me and my setup its the best i've had..now i've setup many others computers that didnt have the latest in hardware..and they had nothing but trouble..mainly its been memory trouble or driver issues which can be fixed but it does detect hardware limitations more then any other operating system so be prepared if you choose that road but well worth the upgrade..good LUCK

It seems that if your Win98SE is running pretty stable, that you shouldn´t change OS at all..

Never change a running system...

but if you really wanna try out something different, you should go with win2k since it doesn´t "call home" to get authorisation code and similar annoing stuff.

@Ozone

XP does not "call home" to get authorisation code. the user calls to activate it.

also there is a little box that you check in system/automatic updates that says "turn off automatic updating I want to update manually"
besides which XP does not need to be registered before you can update. ;)

But I do agree with you Ozone "if it aint broke don't fix it."
but if you must, then get another Drive & play with that until you are happy.

yes. However, I do have a personal rule:
1) do not move a thread if it already has a reply sent by another moderator. Well... markrb is a moderator now;)

I got the idea that although he was asking what operating system was better, it also struck me as what OS was better with DVD2SVCD. If there was any known issues with any with DVD2SVCD. If there was one that worked better, with DVD2SVCD, then the others.

Mozart if you think this belongs in the Newbie section go ahead and move it. I will bow to your experience.

With XP make sure to keep using the famous Windows Update. There have been several compatability updates for software. Among them was Nero that we use here.

ozone never change a running system? To safe for me. I would hazard a guess that at least half the people here are "computer geeks" which I proudly state I am one. No self respecting geek would go six months without re-installing their system running or not.
