I followed the instructions to Q41 on the Official Q&A, but I can't rip past Vob 4. Vobs stops at 2KB. Any ideas why or an alternative ways to combine a double sided DVD to one SVCD image? Check out my log.

I backed up that movie 2 months ago and nothing out of the ordinary happened....Umm what version PaL or NTSC// as mine was NTSC format.
Another thing this is your first post if you read the newbie faqs and all the other information given by the staff of doom9 You would know better and post in the newbie section..but since this is your first post i'll be nice...
You might want 2 give more information also like your computer setup..if you have ever been able 2 backup your dvd's ect...your operating system.

I have dual 1GHz Tyan Thunder K7, 256Mb RAM, 60GB HD, Toshiba IDE DVD SD-M1612, and SCSI Yamaha CDR-W. Running on XP Professional. The format is NTSC and I have been successful in backing up single sided DVDs. It appears to be contraint to the first IFO which has 4 VOBs over 19 chap. Thanx for being kind.

SuperF, try something for us. Use dvd2avi 1.76 and open the first vob and see if it gets the rest of them. If so, load the d2v file (load project), press F5 (preview)and see if it runs past the area you are having the stoppage. Let us know what happens.

Yes, I opened the 1st vob and it detected all 8 vobs. I loaded the project and the preview takes it all the way to the end of the 4th vob which is the first side of the DVD. That's where the rip stops!?? I ended up with an image of the first side of the DVD on 2 CDs.
Over the last couple of weeks I have tried different ways. I experimented by putting the IFO file in another folder and it promted me to add the vobs when I started DVD2SVCD. I added the 8 vobs and it went through the process smoothly, but I was left with 20 out of place chapters and out of sync audio. That's the closes I've come in converting a complete movie.

With this method you will probably not be able to use DVD chapters. It may be best to set fixed chapters at a set number. I use 90.
One other thing to check. Make sure all of the Vob's actually have a size. SmartRipper will sometimes make a 0 byte Vob when it is skipping the 1st Vob file, because it does not contain the movie (trailers etc...). If this is the case erase that one and number all the rest as if that one was not there.
If this is not the case try this instead.
1st get version 1.06.1 or earlier full release not a beta.
Start the rip like you normally would with DVD2SVCD, but put the VOB files into a temp directory. When the ripping starts hit the X to close DVD2SVCD. It should complete the rip before closing.
Put in the second DVD and do the same thing with it, but make sure you rip into another directory. Hit the X to close.
Do exactly like it says to do in the Q + A as if it was ripped with SmartRipper. You may not have all the same files, but don't worry.
After they are all copied into the same directory start up DVD2SVCD and this time shut off DVD ripping. Continue as normal.
If that fails do what DDOGG suggested with these files and see if you have the same problem.
Lastly if that does not work check the second set only with DVD2AVI by only selecting the vob's ripped from the second disk the same way. Maybe you have a bad second disk.
Worse case you will have to treat both disks as seperate videos and encode each by itself.

First of all, thank you guys for your help. I appreciate the insight and suggestions. Just before I posted my initial thread I started the process again with some variation and I tweaked some settings to allow for a quick encode to speed up the process as suggested in one of the posts. I didn't get a chance to try out your suggestions, Mark, but I will keep that for my notes. Well, that last run I did worked! :)
I am not sure what I did that was so different, but I ended up with 3 CDs with 20 chapters. 1st CD had 15 chap, 2nd had 4, and 3rd had none; but the movie was complete and of good quality.
Now is there any way to preserve the orginal 34 chapters at it's orginal places of the DVD? Is there any way to modify the IFO with the Ifoedit program to include all 34 chapters. It appears that the conversion adhered to the original IFO with 19 chapters found on the 1st side.
Again thanks, Mark and DDog. Sorry for posting in the advanced forum, I didn't think that I was going to get much help from the Newbie forum.
Mark, good luck for your Pats. But I think my schoolmate Marshall Faulk and the Rams might be too potent.
