View Full Version : clarification on drivers for Radeon cards

There has been much discussion on this board about the WDM wrapper that can be used to cap in VirtualDub. I have also read here and in guides that the wrapper solution may degrade performance.

I am using a Radeon DDR 64 VIVO and use the WDM wrapper device in VD. Can someone confirm that there are in fact no cap drivers for using Radeon cards with VD and that the wrapper is only way to go?

I'd like to know too.

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon. Just switched from WinME to Win2K, and although I can get virtualdub to work, it wont actually go through with the capture. It just sits there taking 100% CPU until I hit ESC.

So I wonder if the wrapper was the culprit (though i was JUST FINE under winME -- maybe I should try winXP)

I really want to get this fixed by South Park tonite. No chance

It depends on the version of the radeon, mine is 7200, it works without wrapper without probs, think the higher radeons, 7500 or 8500... only produce higher quality with the wrapper

Somehow, rebooting really helped.

Also, win2k didn't seem to like my 320x384 resolution that I had been forced to capture in under WinME. Suddenly, I am able to actually capture in 512x384 (and even 640x480). No clue why, after almost 2 years of capturing, this is finally possible.

I guess Win2K kicks that much ass.

It must be the driver. The drivers in my ati box only allowed capturing something like 320x240 with other programs than ati mmc, but new drivers from ati page and now I can capture 720x576 full res pal.

What build of the drivers are you using? I have 5.0.3043 and have been stuck with 320x240 in Vdub since I upgraded to 2000 SR-2 (I have a Radeon 7200).

all radeon capture drivers are WDM, possibly some of the early ones (pre-dx8) are vfw, but the WDM drivers require the wrapper to work in vdub.
