View Full Version : Restoring blend of I/P frames from very wierd DVD source

Hello everybody,
I have this NTSC DVD 29,97FPS that I need to deal with at work. For the first time, I have VOB with a mix of progressive and interlaced frames. On top of that, some frames are duplicated.

I am not familiar at all with "framerate restoration" and I am seeking advice and guidance on this.

I will wait for the moderators approval before I provide a link to a sample, because this is adult stuff.

My idea is that the interlaced frames have been encoded to progressive without deinterlacing. Sometimes, whether the frames are interlaced or progressive, it is very visible that the motion is jerky (an object will cover a distance from frame a to b and b to c, but twice that distance from c to d). And let's not forget when a frame is duplicated, which only happens with progressive frames.

Please let me know if you need more information, I'm not sure what to provide...

Meanwhile, here is what I see:
14 interlaced frames
3 progressive frames + 1 duplicated progressive frame
12 progressive frames
15 interlaced frames
2 progressive frames + 1 duplicated progressive frame
13 interlaced frames
14 interlaced frames
1 progressive frames + 1 duplicated progressive frame
15 progressive frames
12 interlaced frames
1 progressive frame followed its interlaced duplicate
1 interlaced frame
15 progressive frames
12 interlaced frames
8 progressive frames + 1 duplicated progressive frame
15 progressive frames
15 interlaced frames
4 progressive frames + 1 duplicated progressive frame
11 interlaced frames
15 progressive frames
2 progressive frames + 1 duplicated progressive frame
13 progressive frames
15 interlaced frames
1 progressive frames + 1 duplicated progressive frame
13 progressive frames
13 interlaced frames
1 interlaced frame
16 progressive frames
12 interlaced frames
8 progressive frames + 1 duplicated progressive frame
10 progressive frames
10 interlaced frames
1 progressive frame
4 interlaced frames
4 progressive frames + 1 duplicated progressive frame
11 progressive frames
9 interlaced frames
1 progressive frame
4 interlaced frames
3 progressive frames + 1 duplicated progressive frame
12 progressive frames
4 interlaced frames
...
Not sure how long I should keep going...!

Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the procision neuron2.

I have looked at the "pattern" again after deinterlacing. Maybe it can make things simpler. The number is the number of frames before a duplicate. So 17 is 17 consecutive frames and the 17th one is repeated at the 18th one. Then motion is on again for x number of frames, followed by a duplicate.

I didn't find a pattern in there, and I think it would be useless.

Is there such a tool that can analyze motion and interpolate frames that have to much movement in them and/or the ones that are duplicated? I must admit I am quite lost, this is new grounds for me. Thanks for any help!
