I'm using VirtualDub-1.9.8 and ffdshow (rev3299) to convert
DVSD (Panasonic mpeg2 from DV in AVI container) to x264.

But the video is delayed when played in VLC. When the player starts there is only sound the first 2 seconds and no video, and then the video starts delayed. If i convert to xvid there is no delay.

My VLC plays other x264 .avi files fine. Also VLC plays the original DVSD fine.

I have tried multiple versions of ffdshow.

I have also tried "Bink and Smacker" with ffdshow. The same here.

What is going wrong?

Do not use VirtualDub for x264 encoding. Use cli, AVIDemux or Handbrake, and avoid using anything that rely on crappy M$ VFW.

OK. What do you recommend when I need to do deinterlacing and easy x264 encoding in one step? Windows 7.

MeGUI is a place to look. Also, consider ripbot264 or StaxRip.

I recommend AVIDemux.

I tried AVIDemux, What a great pice of software, so easy to use. The delay is now gone. Thanks.

I'll like to render at start title. Something simple like white fonts on a black background with no effects. What software can do this?

Thanks
