View Full Version : Conversion Artifacting - Recommended Filter

Hi everyone, I've recorded a touring car race from Brazil on a local TV station. Unfortunately the station appears to have used poor frame rate conversion methods. At the bottom left and right of the image, there is a great deal of the artifacting when any camera pans as the below images demonstrate:

I can crop to remove this but as it can grow quite large this results in a large area of the visible picture being lost. The above is a relatively mild example of the problem.

Can anyone advise on an approach in avisynth to minimise this, or a filter I should be considering?

My thinking is that a strong blurring effect on those corners would do the trick, but I'm unsure on the best way to do this.

Maybe you could overlay a section over it (e.g. cropped from a neighboring section from the same frame) , or does the content/scenes change so much that this would be impossible?

Are you planning on leaving it interlaced?

I'm leaving it interlaced for a DVD.

Given that this only occurs when the camera pans I don't feel it's particularly viable to put a static area there.
