I reformated and installed the latest k-lite codec pack which comes with the latest MPC but now for some reason it auto adjusts contrast and brightness of video files.

so a dark scene will start and a second later it makes the contrast go through the roof completely ruining the scene and I can't find any options to turn it off.

I've uninstalled the k-lite codec pack and uninstalled MPC and reinstalled an old stand alone version of MPC by itself and its still auto adjusting constrast/brightness. VLC doesn't do this so does anyone have any ideas how I can get mpc to stop doing it?

Turn off the setting in your video card's control panel.

thanks I found a setting that disabled it in the catalyst control panel. Seems odd that it didn't do this before the reformat though.

I didn't have anything enabled in control panel but I had this problem too and solved it by disabling VMR-9 Mixer Mode in MPC-HC options.

Disable Dynamic Contrast in the ATI Catalyst control panel.
