No Sound- Avi Movie

I have d/l a movie (dvd) avi file, the picture is brillant and really clear, however it has no sound. How can l fix this in virtualdub before l burn it to a vcd.

Please can you give step by step instructions, as l am relatively new to this.

I have d/l a avi movie, the picture is brillant. I only have a little bit of sound at the very beginning. I opened the file in virtualdub, chose audio mode- the file save wav. create in uncompressed.
The went to tmpgnec used the orginal avi as input and the wav file as sound input. Still didn't work. The picture turned out lousy with heaps of pixels in it, so l deleted and can hopefully try again. Does anybody have an suggestions
