I'm having trouble playing mkv files of Blu-Ray movies that I ripped and reencoded to save space. It is a very high-quality encode (cRF=18). The file plays flawlessly via my PS3 using PS3MediaServer. I have Gigabit network cards and switch. The bandwidth when streaming to the PS3 is typically 20+ mbit/s. However when I try to play the mkv using VLC Media Player or GOM Media Player, I get stuttering, freezing and have problems jumping ahead in the file. The computer I'm playing back on is a T7200 notebook CPU (2Ghz) with 4GB ram. It would seem to me that if I'm on a gigabit network, I shouldn't have any problems. I'm not sure if the CPU is having issues, the playback software, or good ole Windows Networking.
