Problems with captured MPEG-PS files

I recently got Gigabyte GT-U7200 DVB-T USB TV card from my cousin so I am looking for a best way to edit&store the recorded SD broadcasts but I've encountered a few problems:

1.
I now have a lot of MPEG-PS files (.mpg) that need to be trimed at the beginning and at the end. I've tried to save the part of the recording with Avidemux and it seemed to work fine but then I noticed that every edited file stalls at the very beginning when playing with GOM player (picture stops a few times during the first few seconds of video). The same videos played thru Media Player Classic work normal. Anyone knows where the problem could be?

2.
I'd like to encode the captured files to XviD but preserve interlacing so I made a few tests using MediaCoder and everything was fine except one thing - the field order - the source video has Top Field First and the result I am getting has Bottom Field First (much more distortion than when everything is OK). Is there a way to encode with right field order in MediaCoder thru Extra Opions string or something? I got no answer at MediaCoder forum so I am asking here.

3.
The sotware with the card was Presto! PVR and it captures SD broadcasts into MPEG-PS and HD broadcasts into MPEG-TS, is it possible to capture the SD broadcasts into MPEG-TS with that software (nothing in manual)?

4.
I was looking for a better software to record with Gigabyte GT-U7200 DVB-T TV card but did'n find any software which lists any Gigabyte TV card on the compatibility list :-/ I'd like to use some better software but don't know which ones are compatible (if any) :-/ Can someone recomend me a software that works with that card? How can I know if the card is BDA compliant?

1. Try using an MPEG-2-aware cutting system, like ProjectX.

2. no idea, as I don't do this

3. how about googling for it? There are no more than a handfull of manufacturers, so you can find an equivalent ...

+1 for ProjectX, you will need the Sun Java compiler and runtime unless you can find a
pre-compiled version (they sometimes are some knocking about), however, ProjectX
seems to be a dead project, no activilty for about 2 years I think. Shame I really
liked it (Still do).
I have an MSI MegaSky (probably older than yours and it uses the NewSoft Presto!
PVR, Mine is BDA, I assume yours will be also. Hunt out ProgDVB free edition (I
think there is a mention on the Doom9 home page). Also may like to try the Freeware
DVBDream, it can be fiddly to set up but I like it and it is very light weight in CPU,
This also seems to have ceased development.
About GOM, it sometimes has problems with certain vids, I like GOM but it is not
perfect. Have a try of VLC Player, usually plays everything, even so I do tend to
like GOM better.

ProjectX 0.90.4.00 March 30, 2006. Are you saying that you have a recent link
to the full current source (without all them patches). Have never used CVS,
dont really fancy learning it, but if there is significant improvement to PX,
then I guess I'm gonna havta learn.
Give a link to full patched source if you have it.

Thank you very much for answering me. I'll try what you've said. No problem with compiling Java source but there's compiled .jar inside the archive at this very site :-))

ProjectX 0.90.4.00 March 30, 2006. Are you saying that you have a recent link
to the full current source (without all them patches).

Project 0.90.4.00b32 (beta 32, released end of December 2009). It copes with .M2TS files and HDTV subtitles.
