View Full Version : Hauppauge HD-PVR Crashes with Vegas

Anyway, I just got an Hauppauge HD-PVR and am trying it with the trial version of Vegas 9. Unfortunately, whenever I try to render clips recorded from the PVR, Vegas crashes on me.

What can I do to resolve this? Is there some format I can convert the video to beforehand that Vegas can handle without sacrificing quality?

Vegas is editing software that can sometimes also capture, and the PVR card is for recording TV with a special hardware chipset that should be accessed with appropriate PVR TV software. Vegas probably isn't it.

Hey this is my first post! :)

I also have the Hauppauge HD PVR and have been using it with Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0b. There are two issues related to this combination when you use M2TS files created by the Arcsoft TotalMediaExtreme software that comes with the PVR:

First, the PVR often creates M2TS files with bad imbeded timestamps. Dropping one of those files into the timeline will cause any of the Movie Studio 9 versions to crash. To get around this, you must repair all the timestamps. The best way to do this is to use VideoRedo's Quickstream Fix tool.

In fact, many other programs besides Vegas Movie Studio will not work with corrupted M2TS streams (e.g. Tsmuxer). Once you run them through Quickstream Fix, that often solves the problem.

But, if you are using Vegas Pro 9, you will probably not have this problem - this is why its always important to post exactly what software and version you're using. Vegas Pro 9 has a more robust front-end for accepting corrupted M2TS files than Vegas Movie Studio 9.

The timestamp cleanup is described here:

Second, if your're having a problem rendering M2TS from TME, you may be running into a virtual memory problem that many versions of Vegas have (Movie Studio and Pro). To workaround this particular problem, you need to change a switch inside some Vegas DLL's so that they will run with more than 2GB of virtual memory. The workaround is described here:

Hope this helps.
