MPC doesn't play my FLV files.
All I get is a still picture and no sound.
How do I fix this.

MPC-HC plays FLV files just fine. ;)
You have to provide some more information to get help here:
System specs (hardware and software)
MPC-HC version
FLV file details (via MediaInfo)
ecc...

For what it's worth (I don't know anything about video players), here are a few .flv it won't play.

With default settings nothing happens. After messing with the internal filters, all I got was sound, no image.

There's something else wrong, because I can play those videos just fine with the internal decoders using the latest MPC-HC r1635.

Perhaps DXVA does not work properly on his system. So try disabling the internal DXVA decoder.

I just went back to default settings. In that case, the program window opens the right size, it says "Playing" and it shows the correct file length. So, everything seems to be normal, but playback just doesn't start.
Which (combination of) filters could I try for these files?

Did you disable DXVA for H.264 files like clsid suggested? Did you use the latest version available? Like I said, with the internal H.264 software decoder I have no problem.

Disabling DXVA for H.264 doesn't help. Only sound, no video.
Enabling H264/AVC (FFmpeg) causes the behaviour I described before (no audio or video, player "stuck" at 00:00).

Which MPC-HC version are you using? Do you have the latest drivers for your video card?

I just downloaded the latest beta. That doesn't work either.
No idea what could be wrong. I think I'll just go back to kmplayer.

Not sure what this high and normal quality means, YouTube has FLV,3GP,MP4 variants for 1st video and FLV,3GP,MP4, mp4 720p, mp4 1080p for 2nd video. FLV is always normal quality. So I just downloaded both flv files and they has NOT the same parameters as you listed. One (http://pastie.org/818160), two (http://pastie.org/818157). Both works fine in mpc-hc r1635

I just added this old divxdec.ax as a preferred filter, and now the avi file mentioned above (deleted link) plays perfectly.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/divx_media_format_filters.htm
I also added divxdech264.ax as a preferred filter, and now the problematic flashfiles can be played normally.

mpc-hc requires external decoders, even one from 2005? How can that be?
Just to confirm, it won't play these file "out-of-the-box".

That is an AVI file, not an FLV file.
Disable the internal decoders in MPC-HC and use ffdshow instead.
