How to make a .mp4 video (for Flash players) with VirtualDub? I have everything perfectly post processed and exported as .avi (compression x264), but then I don't know how to properly convert to (or originally export as) .mp4.

At http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=417502 I found two recommended programs for conversion, but couldn't get them to work. What's the proper way? If a converter has to be used, is it possible to convert .avi(H.264) to .mp4(H.264) losslessly?

VirtualDub uses the outdated VFW Interface and consequently is limited to AVI output. I cannot output MP4 files or anything else.

Furthermore you shouldn't use the outdated and discontinued x264 VFW Codec (the only one available in VDub). Instead use the x264 CLI with one of the various GUI's (MeGUI, StaxRip, etc).

You can also have a look at Avidemux (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=126164), which is very similar to VirtualDub, except for the dependency on VFW and the limitation to AVI...

VirtualDub can output MP4, MKV or anything else. New test versions support command line encoders http://forums.virtualdub.org/index.php?act=ST&f=15&t=18060&

This seems to be new/experimental feature. So the above still holds true for the current release version of VDub. Interesting news though...
