Hello.

Recently, i got a updated megui.
And, it had a function that i'd never seen at previous version.
it's called MB-Tree, Slicing.

But, i don't know how i utilize it.
I'm wondering if you could tell me what it means and what it can do.

Thanks in advance.

- It can contains a crude use in vocabulary or error in grammer.
please understand me.

You don't need slices unless you encode 1080p level 4.1 blu-rays.

The link lucamark posted is great, but there is one bit that's outdated. MB-tree works with b-pyramid now.

Then, is MB-Tree unnecessary to Baseline Profile?
Baseline Profile can't contain B-Frame.
As a result, can't use B-Pyramid.

Just because it works with b-pyramid doesn't mean you have to use b-pyramid or b-frames. So no, it's not unnecessary or useless with baseline profile.

Thank you!

B-Frames are not "useless" in Baseline profile, they simply are forbidden in that profile. So if (and only if) you need to stick with Baseline profile, then you can't use B-Frames.

But if you aren't restricted to Baseline profile, you should use B-Frames for sure! And in that case B-Pyramid helps both, quality and speed.

And about slices: Since slices hurt compression, you shouldn't use them, unless you really have to. This basically applies to BluRay encodes and "real time" applications.

The "useless" was referred to MB-tree, not to B-Frames ;)

My mistake. I misinterpreted nurbs' post.
