I am encoding the movie Pitch Black and there are several scenes in the movie that are interlaced. This is the Director's Cut version and they are the scenes deleted from the theatrical release. I am using GKnot's Smart Deinterlace which gets rid of the interlacing but I'm getting a lot of ghosting. What I want to know is, if there is any way to get rid of the ghosting? About 95% of the DVD is non-interlaced, so most of it looks great, except for the other 5% scenes. Thanks for your help...

I've never tried it but...
You could rip by chapter into separate vobs
Encode separately, deinterlacing the interlaced chapters
reassemble in Nandub manually.

im also having problems when i deinterlace a 20% (+-) interlaced source
a very hard one
and when i use the SmartDeinterlace i get some shake/flash-freeze frames
manono suggest me trying the Decomb, i don't know if it'll work on your case
and... if someone had another suggestion, it'll help us 3 :)
thanks!

Perhaps, if the source is interlaced video rather than film, you might avoid the IVTC. Reducing frame rate may be causing more problems than it solves.
