Hi all!
There is a problem - i have lot of videos that encoded with WMV1 with poor quality. All videos are covered by small squares of 10*10 pixels that irritates terribly.
What can i do to blur these squares? Is there any special filters or any certain codec can rescue from this trouble?
It is necessary to me that all videos must be in WMV format.
It is desirable to automate process as it is really a lot of files.

You can deblock with ffdshow or some player that has built-in deblocking filters. However, this does not really improve the quality; instead of blocking, you'll get blurring. Personally I don't think that's any better.

Hi!

Using the same software and original source material you used to create these WMV1 videos, change to higher quality settings and re-compress...

And WMV1 is really old; that's Windows Media Video 7, which is roughly a MPEG-4 part 2 Simple Profile caliber codec.

Anything encoded in the last five years should be using WMV3; Windows Media Video 9 Main Profile.

That said, there's a registry key that can manually set your deblocking and deringing values; you can experiment and find what works best with your content.

An easy way to set those is with zambelli's WMV PowerToy; it's all in the Decoder tab:
