Hi,

I have a slightly strange issue,

I have a 15 second 1080p clip encoded with x.264 which I'm trying to encode to 720p x.264 with subtitles

Every time I encode the clip it screws up, the fps goes oos, the video plays beyond the end point thats stated in the video player

Ive tried this in several encoding programs and all report the file as 15 seconds long and 29.97fps, but each gives exactly the same result,

The amusing thing about this is if I encode it to XviD it comes out perfectly fine, right length and ends when it should, but when trying to encode from the XviD output to x.264, the issue resurfaces,

its perplexing me to no end, I have encoded loads of videos with x.264 before with no issues, just none this short,

By chance is there a mininmum length required for x.264 to encode properly

Is anybody able to shed a few insights into possible causes and solutions

Encoding programs used for testing
staxrip
megui
avidemux

the source is extracted to its raw form (.h264 file) and indexed with dgavc

could it be a playback issue?

what container are you using? what software/decoder to play? try another like mpchc or kmplayer

what does mediainfo say about the encoded file?

Did you try to feed the programs with the file without extracting it from it's container? (also try mencoder/ffmpeg based programs)

sussed the problem, it turned out to be playback codec issue, heck even vlc wouldnt play it,

cleared down the whole lot of codecs and started again with only coreavc installed and set win7 to use it as the default h.264 codec, both VLC and MPC can now play it back without incident, only thought to clear it down after i cleared my head and several hours after posting here, sorry to waste peoples time

Strange that VLC didn't work before, since it doesn't rely on DirectShow at all..
