View Full Version : MPC-HC Color Controls Are Locked

In the "Miscellaneous" options, I can't move the VMR9 color control sliders.
It's like they are locked. What do I do to fix this?

Are you using VMR9? By default I believe it is not used.

For me and my 9600M GT, VMR9 is completely broken in Vista, and I get half an image.

IMO Windows XP -> use overlay.
Vista, W7 -> EVR-Custom
Any: Haali's renderer, MadVR

You can change colour controls from nvidia control panel if need be(does not apply to Haali's renderer, not MadVR).

In the Output options, it's set on VMR9 (renderless).
What options should I change, so it would let me use the brightness and contrast controls?

Thanks. I will try it out.

I thought about creating an NVIDIA color profile for MPC-HC.
I will do that only if I can't get MPC-HC color controls to work.

Open a video and the controls should become available to you to change. I'm not sure if they are saved through multiple sessions as I have never actually used them.

I tried that, and it's not working.

I tried all twelve renderers in the options,
and none of them enables color controls sliders.

Try VMR9. Make sure to re-open the video after changing the renderer, for the changes to take effect.

It works! I've set it to VMR9 (windowed), and the color controls work.
But now, it won't let me open subtitles.

doesn't it work for vmr9 renderless?

It doesn't work in VMR9 renderless, I tried it couple of times.

Maybe there are some other options I should check or uncheck
to get it working in VMR9 renderless?

For the colour controls: none that I know of.
For subtitles: auto-load subtitles under playback.

That option is pretty much useless because it only works for a few renderers.

It would probably be better to replace it with a shader version and point people to the videocard color controls.

If it only works with VMR9 (windowed), then (a) it should mention that specific renderer in its name, or (b) we should just remove the feature, as VMR9 (windowed) is one of the least used renderers.

When making it a shader I suggest doing something like this:
- Make it an hidden internal shader, so not in the regular shader list
- Use the existing sliders to generate input parameters for the shader
- Automatically enable the shader when one of the sliders in not in its default position, disable it otherwise
- And maybe add a checkbox to allow disabling it without resetting the sliders

On my PC, the color controls work only on VMR9 (windowed) renderer.
I tried all other renderers, and the color controls are not working on them.
