i cant seem to get this to work, i have a hdtv (connected with a dvi->hdmi cable) which i want to use as a screen so when any media files are opened, it will automatically open on the 2nd screen, in full-screen.
at the moment, its opening automatically in full screen, but opening on my lcd monitor (dvi). i've tried dragging the mpc-hc window over to the 2nd screen then closing it but still doesnt open correctly.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried to change the fullscreen monitor in output in the options?
also you can use remember window position in player also in the options.

Launch it with "/monitor <n>" as a command line parameter, i.e. "mpc-hc /monitor 2" if you want the window to open on the second screen.

I guess your best be would be to edit the registry directly:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\mplayerc.avi\shell\open\command
Inserting "/target 2" (sans quotes) before the "%1" should do the trick for AVI files; lather, rinse, repeat with the others.
You probably shouldn't re-register any filetypes you edit in MPC-HC, though...

i'll give that a go when im back from hols, cheers!
is there a way to "add" another option (again, i could do this with xp but as the option isnt there in win7..) so i can play it as normal with one menu option and have a "play on 2nd monitor" option available with the above switch?

from explorer:
tools -> folder options -> file types
avi,mkv,etc ... -> advanced -> new
add mpc-hc to the action like this: "c:/mpc/mpc.exe /target 2" %1
and that should show up in the 'open with' context menu

did a bit of searching and this: http://defaultprogramseditor.com gives you access to something that is similar to the file types dialog.
there is also this: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/file_types_manager.html but i've not tried it as the above did what i needed.
