View Full Version : Nic's or Koepi's XVID codec?

Hello!

I would like use the XVID codec instead of Divx.
And I plan use AutoGK to convert VOB to avi.
But, I can't choose: Nic's or Koepi's XVID codec is the best?
Or-totally the same?

I installed current Koepi, but, if Nic's is the best, I will change it.

Thanks

If you're not targeting hardware that only supports MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid / DivX), I'd suggest using x264 instead. It will give hugely better quality in almost every case!

But how can I transcode a vob file to x264 mkv/avi with AutoGK?

Any one of the many GUI's inside of this forum..

My favorites are Ripbot264 and ASXGui. Both use the CLI x264 codec and open VOB/DVD...

It smells good the oot:rolleyes:

To continue on topic, latest stable Xvid builds by x or y or z simply add or not some features like nvop, vaq or else...but are all based on the same core 1.2.2 which is actually the latest stable Xvid.
But there are also some 1.3.0dev vfws if you want....

If he's really planning on using AutoGK, he'd best use the version of XviD that comes with it. Otherwise he's just inviting trouble.

It was just to explain the differences between these builds.
It is a real long time I don't use AGK, but I remember it uses vdubmod so vfw interface, if the 'added feature' is not 'called' by AGK, isn't it use or not by default so no problem of 'calling'?
Sorry for my bad english:D

Well, just to try, I've install AGK:eek:
I use latest Jawor's November 9 2009 (1.2.2, vaq, divx profiles, custom frame drop ratio)
It seems to work fine.

I'm not real sure about the problems, but others complain about something or other sometimes, and sometimes we come to find out they've got a different version of XviD installed. If I remember correctly, some of the problems relate to getting the wrong file size. The XviD build used by AutoGK is a special one which also includes special settings for MTK chipsets so people don't have problems when playing AVIs on standalones that feature those chipsets.

Your main problem is that you are using xvid files in premiere.

Premiere HATES XVid. Most of the time using xvid files will cause crappy playback, weird exports or cause the program to crash.

Youre best to use uncompressed video with premiere.

Where in this thread does molngab say he's using XviD AVIs in Premiere?
