Banding....

I've recently encountered problems with nasty banding. Near white walls or any surface of near uniform color has an ugly banding effect in its shading. (For the quake players out there, think "the quake sky's")

I use very high bitrates on all my movies ~1000kbps and yet encounter this problem almost all the time.

Can someone recommend a filter, or setting in either VDub or DivX4 to help eliminate this ugly artifact?

I don't know if VDUB has this kind of filter but I would imagine adding some random noise could do the trick. It's been a long time but I'm sure I've done it before with an old codec. I know for sure that it works when re-compressing stills. :confused: Hmmmm...hope this helps in any way. :(
