View Full Version : Sync problem with Windows 7

I've been using AutoGK for some years now and have always been thrilled with it.
However, I recently installed Windows 7 (A Clean Install) and upon installing AutoGK 2.55 I am unable to get a single Xvid file to stay in sync.
This was never an issue on Vista. I have tried everything I can think of. I even formatted and re-installed Windows 7 and the first program I installed was AutoGK and attempted to re-encode some files. All seem to 'choke' about 5 seconds into it on the video when played while the audio remains, therefore creating a 2-3 second sync gap.
I've even tried on files that I have encoded before on Vista and had worked, but now do not.
I'm hoping you guys can help me come up with a solution. Maybe it's something small that i've overlooked? I've even tried installing the newer Xvid codec, tried different VDubMod's. All kinds of things and yet still no solution.
Thanks for reading.

First, what are you using to play the output file? MPC, VLC, Mplayer, etc?
When using windows, I highly recommend you use FFdshow-tryouts. Should provide any compatible codec for any video you ever encounter.

Yeah. Did that and VLC and Windows Media Player... and copied to USB Drive to play on a standalone DVD Player
Like I said, i've even tested these are some that encoded perfectly on vista, then 2 days later sync issues on Windows 7

Sync issues are usually related to the ripping process. How are you doing this on Windows 7, and how does that differ from how it was done under Vista?

I'm running Windows 7 and AutoGk with no problems - I would suggest it is more of a computer issue. Maybe some additional details like the amount of RAM, hard disk, PC speed etc would help someone to provide an answer. I have FFDShow installed along with Windows 7 codecs. BTW since installing Windows 7 AutoGk is a lot faster than on my old XP SP3 box

4.0gb of DDR3 ram. Quad Core Processor... It runs everything else better. The entire video itself is perfect except the 5 seconds it chokes which results in the sync loss.
I've looked my my activity graphs... never goes above 70%. So i'm not running out of ram or anything.
I'll try re-installing FFDShow... I honestly may not have installed that in my 2nd/3rd Win7 install. Let you know if that fixes anything.
Thanks for even attempting to help guys. Awesome forum!

And I ripped the disc via DVD Decryptor before.... and it was fine. But the main xvids in question were... from a friend. I just wanted to shrink 2 of the files so it would all fit on 1 dvd. the original Xvid file works fine. It's only after AutoGK does the 3-5 second choke present itself.

I was advised by an IT friend that 32 bit systems is the maximum ram you can use is 4GB and that includes the memory in the video card. Anything in excess can degrade the performance. So I have 3GB DDR3 ram in an i7 box and 1GB on my Video card. AutoGK has never performed so well on any box I have had in the past. Maybe that's the problem? Just speculating as it is not my area. Also I found on Windows 7 I had to change the security settings in the AutoGK folder (and everything in it) to everyone.

Windows 7 runs better on machines that supported Vista then Vista did. so performance SHOULDN'T be an issue (doesn't mean it's not)
I'll try the 'allow for everyone' as well. and 32bit does only support 3.5gb of ram, but the rest gets sucked into video usually, so it balances out.

Installed FFDShow, still out of sync.
When I look at the logs left by autogk, the only thing that jumps out is the frames log which at the beginning of the log are fine but then repeat 116 about 10 times before actually using real numbers

Still have the same choking problem.

Just a thought - I have a similar Windows7 set up, a 32 bit and 64 bit box. I haven't had any sync problems but I use as my audio settings 'auto' instead of your
Audio 1 settings: VBR MP3 with average bitrate: 112Kbps
Maybe try auto and see what happens?

Still the same thing. It just chokes for whatever reason. Very odd. Never used to do this with Vista or XP on the same machine

Hi Mom, ;)
It sounds like your no "Newbie" to ripping, so I feel your pain! I had advise given to me way back when on this site that cleared sync issues right up. First of all, DVDfab Decryptor is A MUST compared to "DVD Decryptor". I used to have bad luck with that program also. Also:
1. Make a totally separate destination folder for the Video and Audio TS folders to be put into
2. ALWAYS use the "Main movie" feature if you are converting to a .avi format. This will create a VTS_01_0.IFO file. Make sure and use that to convert into a final avi.
After using these steps, I have not had 1 movie finish out of sync. Thanks to the wonderful mods here! :) Here is a link to the topic that cleared it all up for me: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=134594
I'm now using a Sony laptop with 4gb of ram along with Windows 7. By using the above method, I have yet to encounter a problem.
Good luck,
Paul

I've been encoding and editing videos for years. it's only since this PC was updated to Windows 7 that the issues started. I even installed a seperate partition of Vista and it works perfectly. fresh installs of both OS's and 1 chokes, 1 doesn't
To me that sounds like there is a conflict on my end with the hardware and nothing really to do with AutoGK.
DVDFab/DVD Decryptor... it doesn't really matter to me. then result is the same. Still the choking only on Windows 7. I think it has to do with a driver conflict on my Video card that's causing the decoder to screw up.
If I do the video to wmv or mp4 or even flv... no choking. Only the xvid. I'll figure it out some day, until then I just gotta boot into Vista (*Shudders*) when I need to do autogk work
I mucho appreciate you trying to help. That's what a forum is for... helping.
Cheers!

Well, I ripped a tv series with DVD Decryptor and the sync is fine after AutoGK even in Win7...
it just seems like there's certain files that cause the choking problem... it only happens going from xvid to xvid (remember, i'm trying to shrink a file down
CWR03
30th December 2009, 03:23
But the main xvids in question were... from a friend.
This is the only reference I see to the fact that you're "trying to shrink a file down" - rule 6 (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm)?
xyourmomx
30th December 2009, 04:33
The chances of 'Rule 6's being around my vicinity may be likely. But this is not a Rule 6 situation.
I'm curious as to why some xvids will shrink fine and others will not

30th December 2009, 06:31
And I ripped the disc via DVD Decryptor before.... and it was fine. But the main xvids in question were... from a friend. Thread closed per forum rule 6.
