What would be a good way to increase the DB levels in a wav file without it sounding all distorted? i have some sound effects files that are no more then 10 seconds long but there too quite any help would be greatly aprecated.

well i have an old one. cooledit pro 2.1 and keeps coming out as garbage

cooledit.....as the title tell is one cool editor and is very nice to do what you need Aucard The 3rd.

Cooledit pro is a very good sound editor. I used it a lot in the past. You probably don't master it enough.
If you have bought it you'll have also the help files (which are missing in the pirated versions ;)), follow then the help. And don't forget to disable "Save extra WAV information" (or similar, I don't remember, it's more than 10 years).
