View Full Version : Picture problem when IVTC

I used the GKnot to ivtc my framerate from 29.970 to 23.970. So far so good, but there seem to be an annoying side effect, flickering triangle from the upper left corner to center. It tried to change to framerate in dvd2avi too by making a forced film selection, but still the same effect appears :( The movie is ntsc and interlaced, deinterlacing still seems to work fine. So what to do, or should I just be happy with the 29.970? Thanks beforehand!

Ville

if there's no FILM %, then the content probably wasn't Telecined. When DVD2AVI reports NTSC rather than FILM, I leave the frame rate at 29.97.

So ivtc only works for film content with framerate 29.970? Is this what you propose?

What about the interlace? Does ivtc deinterlace the content or do I need to use another plugin for this and use both ivtc and deinterlace at the same time?

As I understand it, there are two ways within GKnot to inverse Telecine -- Either DVD2AVI's Forced FILM, or the IVTC filter. Forced FILM is easier to use, and is recommended unless there are encoding problems with it.

These will reduce the framerate from 29.97 to 23.976. These will only work if the original source has been Telecined. That means the original material must have been at 24fps, and converted to 29.97 for display on NTSC television.

-->> Telecined sources have sprocket holes on both sides. <<--

Interlaced sources are from video. For those sources, you can select either Fast or Smart deinterlace filters. Smart takes a lot longer, but often can look better. I've found, for my interlaced video sources, fast has worked quite well.

If you want to go outside of Gknot, you can use the decomb filter to either inverse telecine or deinterlace -- or both. You'll need to know how to edit avisynth (avs) files to use it. It's available from Doom9's downloads page.

Thanks man, that was probably the best comment concering this issue and definitely solved things out :) Now I got the point behind the framerate change!

And that flickering corner has also been fixed.. Mysterious isnīt it, I only needed to reboot my computer. Yea, thatīs about all for now, thanks once again!
