View Full Version : Rip Individual Audio Channels from Blu-Ray Disc?

Hi. I was wondering how you can rip individual audio channels (namely, rear speakers) from a 5.1 (or 7.1) channel mix on a Blu-ray disc. With DVDs, I would rip the .ac3 file with DVD Decrypter and I would extract the audio channels (such as the left and right rear channels) I wanted with HeadAC3 into a single stereo WAV file. Is there a process similar with Blu-ray? Is there a program like DVD Decrypter for BD's? And a similar HeadAC3 program for DTSHD files? Thank you.

eac3to E: 1) 3: someaudio.wavs
Mix as appropriate with Audacity, etc.

Hey, thanks for that. Everything seemed to be fine until I imported it in the Audacity. I imported the front left and right channels to create a single stereo track except the left and the right channels are exactly the same so it created a "stereo" mono track. I used the libav decoder. I don't have ArcSoft or the Sonic decoder. Thanks.

Anyone know why I am getting these mono "stereo" tracks?

Because your source have the FL = FR?.
Isn't an eac3to bug.
If you think so put a sample.

If you want a stereo track you can do something likeeac3to E: 1) 3: someaudio.wav -down2for a proper 5.1 -> 2 channel downmix.

No, the FL isn't the same as the FR. It may very well be a bug. How should I post a sample? The FR and the FL should form a stereo track, but each channel the same. It extracts the center speaker just fine. It is the same problem with the rear speakers. What I think it is doing is mixing the FR and FL together, but creating two separate files from the FR and FL. I hope I am making sense.

What I would like are the stereo files from the front channels, and or rear channels. Is what you suggested convert the whole 5.1 mix to 2 channels?

Thanks for the reply and trying to help, but I am looking to extract only the rear channels from a 5.1 DTSHD soundtrack, but whenever I do that, it comes out as a "stereo" mono track.

If you think it's an eac3to bug post a sample. Demux the track and cut a piece from the beginning.

I will do that. Where should I post it at? Thanks.

First you need post (copy & paste like text) the complete log of the eac3to extraction.
To upload samples you can use many ways, for instance http://www.sendspace.com/

I am trying to make a sample and I am running into more problems. I am using "UsEac3to: A different GUI for eac3to". The .dtshd file loaded just fine.
I typed in the following code:
eac3to E: 1) 3: someaudio.wavs
And I got this error message:
The parameter "1)" can only be 1st or 2nd parameter. <ERROR>
Then I typed in this code:
eac3to input.dtshd output.wavs
And I got this error message:
Source file "C:\Users\ESB\Desktop\Sample\1_3_audio.dtshdeac3to" not found. <ERROR>
It was working fine before with the first code, but now it isn't working at all. I linked the latest version of eac3to to the GUI and it imported the file fine. I am not sure why it isn't working now. Thanks for any help.

If you load the .dtshd in UsEac3to you only need:
1) Select 'wavs' in 'Output format'
2) Click in 'Add'. Now 'Command line parameters' show:
%_.wavs
3) Click 'RUN commnad line'
You don't need write 'eac3to' or the input file

That worked great, thanks. And now the the sound is in stereo instead of the "stereo" being mono. Also, the DTSHD file is a 7.1 mix but only 6 channels were extracted (including LFE). It didn't extract the side speakers. Does eacto not support 7.1 mixes? Thanks, again.

You need ArcSoft decoder to extract the 7.1 channels in dtshd, with only libav you can extract the standard dts 'core' 5.1 inside the dtshd.

Can someone list in order from best to worst all the audio formats currently supported by Blu ray?
Thanks,
Richard.

Prerlerm73, there is no best.
But you can have,
PCM
Dolby TrueHD
DTS-HD Master Audio.
Which are all lossless files.
Then the lossy ones such as,
Dolby Digital
DTS.
