I know this may sound a bit pointless to everyone, but can DVD2SVCD be used to create VCD's only? A friend of mine cannot play SVCD but is aware of the package and the exceptional results possible with CCE. He's into VCD and asked me to see if this is possible.
Anyone know?

CCE dosent do that great of a job when it comes 2 vcd that is more for a program like TMPG.
That might be 1 reason....

if you want to encode VCD with CCE, DVDx is the better choice. Try it. With a P4, the whole process will be faster than the time lenght of the movie.

No DVD2SVCD does not and cannot create VCD's.
DVD2SVCD only uses Mpeg-2 and VCD's are Mpeg-1.
I would recomend reading the VCD guide on Doom9 that uses TMPG. It's very good, but much more work then DVD2SVCD.

rip DVD w/ smartripper
load VOBs into DVD2AVI
save project file
load project file and wav into TMPGEnc
load VCD template
encode
10000 hours later you have a nice VCD. anyone can follow that, probably why a program like DVD2SVCD isn't really needed. i never heard of CCE encoding VCDs. the newest version has a template for it, haven't tried it yet.

That's because at low bitrates and/or Mpeg-1 CCE bites.
TMPG is much better in this case.
There is an easy to follow VCD guide on Doom9 using TMPG.
