Where is the difference between "TV Scale" and "PC Scale" ?

Good question man. I've never really seen a good explination on this whatsoever. However, I use TV scale as it supposedly adapts the colors a little better for a television. I view all my DivX on my TV instead of the PC monitor.

Maybe someone else can clear this up?

This may be a case of the blind leading the blind...

Using the PC scale, the color values coming out of dvd2avi extend from 0 to 255. Thus, black will be black and white will be white on a PC.

Using the TV scale, color values will extend from 15 to 235 (or something like that). Obviously, blacks won't be completely black and white won't be completely white on a PC.

The reason for TV scale is because this is the way it really is on the DVD. Using the TV scale means there is no color conversion, which is desirable if you're re-encoding using an encoder that natively supports a TV scale.

Incidentally, as I understand it, if you output in YUV, the YUV-to-RGB setting has no effect.

I think the scale you want to use would depend on how you have your DVD player connected to your TV? I believe the DVD source would be encoded with the 0 to 255 scale, if you use a Composite or S Video connection it supresses the range a bit. I believe (although I might be wrong) that when you use a component connection it bypasses certain features on the TV (such as the comb filter) and lets it output the full color scale? I'm not sure but I use the PC Scale and the movies I encode look pretty good on my TV.
