But on trying to re-encode ar 448kbps using VirtualDub using the AC3 ACM Codec at 3/2Channels, I get the following error message:
http://i35.tinypic.com/ejwoy1.jpg
But while using the same at 2 channels, I can get it to work... Anything more than 2 doesn't work..

With AviDemux, I can get the 6 channels, but at a maximum of 320 kbps... What am I doing wrong??

I can't understand.
For what you want recode? To 3/2.0 without LFE?

BTW the ACM decoders/encoders are very limited.
If you need recode the best option is extract the audio and use eac3to or BeHappy
