Does anyone have any insight into where I might find a hacked/patched version of the Pioneer A03 firmware that will disable this ridiculous "certified" 2X lookup?

No I think he is asking if there is one.

Sorry, should have been clearer.

The A03 has the ability to write at 2X, there are dozens of types of blank DVD-Rs that are capable of 2X... But Pioneer decided to only write at the high speed to DVD-Rs that they have certified -- and checks each DVD-R through a table stored in the A03's firmware. That's the reason most blanks take an entire hour (1X) to write even though you've instructed the drive to write at 2X.

I was hoping there is a hacked version of the firmware out there somewhere that gets around the limitation. I know folks are already playing with the firmware, I've seen the region-free hacks available for A03.

By the way can you explain me this.

I have burned with sucess mummy returns and it plays in my sony standalone, but only after I toasted 3 dvd-r (2 vivastar and 1 hispace). This last one almost toasted, he only reached at 97% (this last time I burned copy on fly from a dvd-rw to a verbatim dvd-r).

A few day ago I burn 2 pioneer dvd-r (that came with the package) and they burned great.

I have burned the pioneer with nero with sucess, without sucess the 2 vivastar and 1 hispace. Was this because I changed the firmware. Actually 1.65, after 1.55. Should I update to 1.68 or should I came to 1.55 (if last one how can I do it).

Please :..( if this as already happened with you guys or if you have read in somewhere else how to solve this tell me please.

Dvd-r are still expensive just to toasted them.

i think it is something to do with cdrw discs ar regioned and you are trying to copy your dvdr that is region free onto a regioned disc

i think this is corregt anyone know about this

Yes, indeed I am copying a region free movie. I didnīt know if we copy a region free movie to a media that isn't the software would stop. So the solution to this problem is:

- Get a patch to region free the dvdrecoder ?

- Region free the media (the dvd-r's) but how ?

- Not making the film region free ?

there is no region free patch for the pioneer ao3
you cant change drdrw you should use dvdr
use you dvdrw to practice copying you dvd's
and when you have it right use dvdr's
you can test them in your pc if you want to play them on a dvd set top player you need to use the 1.02 or the 1.05 udf file system when you write the dvd
to rip movies that are not your region you must get a region free dvd rom or use another cpu and copy accross network if you have 2 pc's

do you have icq?

Where might one get the information about v1.65 writing 2X on any DVD-R? I'm using v1.68 and it doesn't hold true...

If you are truly writing at 2X (not what your burning package is telling you) you should be able to write a complete DVD-R (4.7GB) in about 30 minutes (2.76MB/s). I know that works with the Pioneer and Apple disks - they are certified. But my experience with others is about 60 minutes to write (don't believe your software when it says 2X, trust your watch instead). This is consistent with all the articles (and posts on this forum) I've read on the subject -- and I'm talking about DVD-R, not DVD-RW.

There are region free patches all over the web -- do a search for "A03" and "region free". I haven't seen any of the most current versions, though.

If you're attempting to make copies... Smartripper is advertised to remove region encoding. I haven't actually had the need myself.

I'd be happy to step back to v1.65 if it defeats the 2X check... But I have my doubts.

firmware version 1.65 doesnt allow you to write 2x on any dvdr.. i have just tested it and still takes 1hr to write a dvd on non certified dvdr's

hey deathman r u using nero??(nero is onlt 1x)
you need vob instant
i have version 1.65 (firmware)and iam using mirror and data safe discs.
it takes me 30 mins 2 burn a dvd at 2x
dvdrw discs will only go at 1x in the pioneer dvr ao3

go here

ok.. ive tried firmware 165 (posted above) with instantcd 6 and primodvd niether of them record at 2x ... r u sure you are recording at 2x with this firmware and non certified dvd-rs? instantcd reports recording time as 30mins and counts it down but 1min = 2mins in realtime.. so if you just take what instantcd tells you then you arent recording at 2x...

well deathman i cant be arsed to argue with you iam going at 2 speed thats all that matters to me

why dont you email pioneer and tell them their 2x writer only goes at 1x and they will tell you that saying it goes at 2x is false advertising and your gonna sue them for your money back.
this is why the firmware upgrade has been changen,it used to only write cd's at 2x that were pioneer compliant , now pioneer have made every dvd go at 2x because its false advertising

p.s why havent more people answered this thread (because they are all going at 2x)
sort it out deathman

thegeezer

also you should go and update your vob instant to the latest version

You all probably know this. but, the dvdr's that are on pioneers firmware for the a03 to burn at x2 are..their own, verbatims, mitsumi and apple...please could somebody sort out the firmware patch as svp are now selling princo's branded at Ģ2.69p but I don't think they'll burn at x2..will test and let you know.

Show me a site or some literature where Pioneer (or anybody other than YOU) has announced this.

Deathman is right.

If you're truly getting 2X speeds, I think you own the only A03 on the planet that will write 2X to uncertified disks...

thegeezer...

before you start blabbing your mouth off i think that you had better check your facts..

ONLY 2x certified dvd-r will write at 2x on the a03.. pioneer have not got a firmware out that will write to ANY dvd-r at 2x only thier certified ..

and for your information i have emailed pioneer about this matter and they stated quite clearly that the media has to be Certified General Purpose DVDR Media V2.0 if it is not then it will only burn at 1x.
If you are saying that you can burn at 2x speed with NON certified media then you must be the only one that can...
