guys, try and do what Inspector.Gadget suggested ... not to use the "update" feature of MeGUI, but manually download and replace you current x264.exe with an updated one ! :)

Tried your advice. Downloaded directly from x264.nl this one:
x264.exe 32bit mirror 01
Still getting the same error.

Current megui is broken with x264. Use this update server instead:

Thanks for the reply.
There is a lot of different files there. Update which ones specifically?
megui or the x.264 or both?

It doesn't matter, they're all as buggy as the other.

Hi.
Maybe it will help:
Erase the directory
MeGUI.exe_Url_..........
in your
c:\documents and settings\eyeguy\local settings\application data\www.doom9.net\
A long time ago (when I used MeGUI) I had a problem with a file, generate by a previous version, inside this directory.
Don't be afraid to erase it, it will be back when you will launch Megui the next time.

remove the megui folder too. and remove any other update server's name. don't manually unpack or overwrite anything. let the app do it's job
ps: i didn't press "update" after the program re-launched.

- Remove the shortcut to MeGUI from the desktop.
- Remove all MeGUI folders and everything from your harddrives.
- Remove any MEGUI install files you have downloaded from your system.
- Remove any MeGUI related bookmarks from ALL of your browsers.
- Remove anything related to MeGUI from your notes on your desktop, including the one where you tried to make out which one was the latest working version.
- Shut down your system and go asleep.
- Stand up, power on the system, and direct your browser to this forum, and focus on the NOT-Megui related threads.

uninstall megui from control panel's add/remove programs
shift+delete the megui folder under c:\program files
restart?
install latest megui - if you run it first, dont update yet
go to options->settings->extra config ; uncheck use autoupdate; click configure servers and then remove everything from there and add the url posted here
update everything.
re-launch and use auto encode with your desired bitrate (mp4 is better than mkv?)
