Which applications commonly used in MPEG-4 frontends don't support unicode? I want to display it in a warn message in case somebody tries to open a unicode file. So far I know about AviSynth and DGIndex.

Why not convert it into Default or UTF-8 instead ?

I refer to filenames, the only options I see is ask to rename the file or to add unicode support to the application.

If you're able to detect unicode files, you should be able to convert them into something else...just my 2€ cents. ;)

It's not that easy, you have to display before and after, you have display multiple files at once and there could be one or more folder names containing unicode. I'll just show a message like 'The filename contains unicode which is not supported by the applications y, x and z'.

Because I don't think a source file/folder should be renamed without asking the user and showing the names before and after.
