Is there any quality difference between dvdshrink and decrypter? I understand that dvddecrypter has ifo parsing but what makes that so special? I AM NOT ASKING WHICH ONE IS BEST!! I am simply asking if there is a quality difference between the two in their decrypting methods. Keep in mind I am assuming that you aren't compressing anything with dvdshrink, only ripping 100% of the file without compression.

Now, I understand a similar question has been asked many times but ifo parsing is rarely addressed yet usually proven to be "the" qualifier.

Thanks for letting such a noob ask what might seem to some like a dumb question. I'm just asking for some clarification of the specifics.

Hi!

DVD Decrypter has always been accepted as being a more effective decrypter when dealing with DVDs with physical problems (Nothing to do with copy protection)...

If the DVD is not CSS protected and is not physically damaged, then all rippers are the same, that is valid also for Windows Copy/Paste from Explorer. You'll end with identical copies of VOBs either way. That is so because of how the DVD was established. DVD is not CD audio ;) where the ripper really does make a difference.

The power of a ripper reveals itself when dealing with protected DVDs (not only with CSS but also with eg Arccos). But this issue is still in debate (which one handles the best a particular title).

The only reason why DVD Shrink would be of lower quality would be if you used the "Shrink" functionality, which transcodes the video. Otherwise, as Ghitulescu said, results should be bit-for-bit identical regardless of what ripping method you use.
