Hello guys,

Loooong time no see, hear, write etc... i hope you are all well.

I had a bit of a timewarp coming here, and very surprised to see the same old chips being talked about, some of the same old DVD players.

I'm still using my Yamada 6700, but increasingly am needing h264 or other format playback and have been looking around.

This new popcorn hour looks (to me) to be by far the best thing out there, (not quite out yet, it seems) but the spec, and the energy the manufacturers give and also that of the fanbase is really encouraging.

Has anyone here got one yet, or anyone have a good reason (other than price) not to dive in here?

Cheers guys,

Mark.

I'm currently using an Xtreamer (http://www.xtreamer.net/). It's a tiny little thing and I'm really pleased with it.

It's fitted with a "RealTek" A/V decoding chip-set. So finally we end-users are able to experience devices that run on something other than a Sigma chip-set.

In my opinion, the PCH C-200 costs too much for what it offers

Hi SMD,

Seems great, same price as the WD-TV (99$) + room and connectivity for an internal SATA-HDD + Ethernet 10/100 + Wifi antenna optional !!

I can understand that you are pleased with it

I have a question about the Xtreamer. Does it play AVCHD ISO or/and Bluray ISO image from network/HDD ???

It my main thing, because I want to play my backups from it.

As far as I know only the PCH C-200 currently offers this. Or is close to offering it

I'd appreciate very much some feedback about its actual performance. Is it as nice as should be expected as per its specs?

Also, I've read some complaints out there on its "noisy fan" - is it really that bad?

Many thanks in advance.

Many thanks in advance. It does indeed have a noisy fan. The new v1.0.3 firmware introduced "50" variable fan speed settings, but sadly this has done little to reduce the noise. But I'm probably one of the unlucky ones who got a poorly constucted fan.

Personally, I run the unit with the fan switched off. However, I have removed the aluminium cover plate (nearest the chip-sets heat-sink) to reduce heat building-up within the player.

All-in-all, I think it's a very good player. I'm even considering getting another one!

Does this XTREAMER support DTS downmixing without the need of an xtra A/V Receiver to decode DTS oder is it similar to the WDTV Player, which doesn't support it? I think this is an essential feature so you dont have to convert DTS to AC3 or use an xtra A/V Receiver...

Thanks in Advance :thanks:

Yep... I'll hold my hands up to that.

Perhaps a moderator can split and create a new thread.

I have a C200, and it works ok. But there are bugs they need to sort, in particular the nic drivers.

I have made it region free already, should there be people who hesitate to buy the C200 because they don't know if it can be made region free.

Greetings .

Does the c-200 play 1920x1080/60p MP4 AVC(H264) video with AAC audio? The A110 had problem with these 60fps clips.

Here are links to some samples:
