View Full Version : Why are there identical .mts files on a blue-ray movie?

I've ripped many of the blue-ray movies in my library and they've all been very straight forward. I always found that the largest .mts file ripped from the disc is always the full movie and all the other .mts files are previews, warnings, etc. that can be discarded . .

Today I ripped a blue-ray movie and found that the files are very confusing. First of all, the movie is broken up into several .mts files that aren't even in the chronological order of the movie.

Second, there are identical files that have the exact same audio format, video, and duration. . . . Why is that?

Can anyone shed some light on the subject? . . . Basically, I would just like to know two things . . .

1. Does it matter which .mts file I choose from the identical ones? I am putting them into multiAVCHD to save on an external drive and play on my PS3.

2. What would be the easiest way to get the .mts files in chronological order (besides having to sit there and watch them all and compare them to the full movie on the disc.)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Multi-angle or branched content, alternate scenes, etc?

Ok . . . So any clue how I would go about piecing that together to compile it in multiAVCHD? . . . Do I have to sit and watch each clip and compare it to the movie to figure out the proper order? . . . Also, does it matter which .mts file I use when the files seem to be identical? . . . There's even one case where the .mts files are almost identical except one is about 1 second longer.

This movie seems like it's going to be a nightmare to get into one .mts to put on my PS3. . . . I wonder if they possibly did that on purpose.

Use BDInfo or or eac3to to examine each BD playlist, I guess. That'll tell you how the pieces fit together.

Perfect! . . . Thank you!. . . . That's exactly what I needed. BDInfo shows the order that each .m2ts is played for each playlist. . . . It's gonna take a little more work to get this DVD onto my PS3, but at least I know how to go about it. . . . Thanks again!
