PS3 Harddrive Not Seen

My son's PS3 hardrive is not being "seen" by the PS3. Does this indicate harddrive failure or is their away to fix it?

Internal drive or external USB drive? External USB drive must be formatted in FAT32 file system. There is a free tool to reformat your USB drive.

It the internal one in the PS3. I t is not being seen by the PS3.

Looks like a hard drive problem. Try to change your HDD. It is possible to do to end user without loss a warranty.

The PS3 was bought 18 months ago from GAME. I looked up the "One Show " web site. This is a BBC programme part of which offers consumer advice. On it I found that even though the 12 month warrenty may have expired EU law states that you can claim off the seller up to 6 years after purchase if the goods are faulty. It even gives a draught letter which you fill in the blanks about your purchase. I sent a letter to the GAME CEO first class last Wednesday. They would have recieved it Thusday. The next day Friday they phoned me to say they will repair the PS3 and have Emailed all the details what I have to do.
I am therefore sending it for repair even though I know its a 3 minute job to replace the hard drive at least I will not be paying.
