View Full Version : DVD2SVCD has deleted the IFO-File, what can I do?

Hi,
yesterday i have made my first rip of an DVD. Everything worked finde with DVD2SVCD 1.0.6 B1 but the images are to big. I want to use 700MB CD's and have entered 790 as Size as my Tutorialpage said.

Now I have 2 790MB Images *g*.

OK so I wanted to reencode the SVCD.

I have started DVD2SVCD and said under Conversion where the IFO-File is located on my Harddisk. But BING DVD2SVCD has had an error and has deleted the file *GRRR!*

Then I remembered the Crash Recovery but this does also miss the NFO-File.

So my quesion:
- What does this IFO-File do?
- How can I now say DVD2SVCD to do everything from the point on which CCE is started, so that two SVCDs are made out of the Files. (DVD was PITCH BLACK PAL-Version)

Hope someone can help me because I can't get the IFO-File again.

THX!

Hi there,

i think you don't have to reencode the movie, because 790MB images will perfectly fit on a 700MB(80 Mins) CD-R because in "SVCD-Mode" there is no error-correction used and so 2352 Bytes per Sector are used instead of 2048 Bytes when burning a Data-CD-R! So in fact you can burn nearly 807,5 MB SVCD-images on a 700MB disc - it's that easy!

The IFO-File usually contains the information about the Tracks on the DVD and the Movie itself like (Length, aspect-ratio, ...) and it is needed by dvd2svcd for ripping the movie.

But you can use another IFO-File instead from a movie with the same settings (PAL,2.35:1,..) when using internal routines for ripping. Just copy the VOBs and the new IFO to a different directory on your harddisk and use internal ripping then. in the conversion tab there will be a false movie length but dvd2svcd will detect the correct one when ripping the movie.

If you read the Q + A and the Newbie FAQ you will notice that a 700mb/800 minute CD-R can fit up to 807mb's without a problem.

If you happen to need an IFO file for another reason you just need to rip an IFO from any movie that has the same frame rate. You just rename the VOB files to the same as the IFO that you are using.
Only potential issues are if the audio streams are not the same and the aspect ratio is different. You may have to play with those. Otherwise the majority of the info DVD2SVCD finds out for itself.

I use CDRWIN all the the time.
In my case it pops up a screen thats says the disk is longer then what can fit on a 650mb disk do you want to continue.
I just say yes and works perfect.
You will get this screen no matter what you are trying to put on a CD-R if it's more then what will fit on the smaller disk. It's not an error, it's making sure that you have a bigger CD-R disk in the drive.

You are loading a Cue file and not trying to burn an mpeg right?

BIG Letters saying Newbie FAQ read before posting *****.
Can't miss it. Unless you just post without trying to read other posts first.
