I recorded a program from TV using the pinnacle TV-Tuner card. The file was saved in MPEG-2 format. After a few days I was watching that recorded video when I noticed that at a specific point there's a blackout for 1 sec, after which it does not continue from the scene that was going on before the blackout, ie, around 5 minutes of video is missing from the file.
Then I tried to cut around the blackout point using different softwares but it would not cut beyond that specific point. So I also tried VirtualDub and it too did the same thing along with displaying these messages :

Immediately after parsing of file is completed

While saving the file

So I want to know why this happened and is there any way to restore the missing part ?
Any help is appreciated.

I don't think you can restore the missing part (but I might be wrong...), but I think you can try to get past that point and cut or fix the file with the QuickStream Fix function (Tools -> QuickStream Fix) or edit it in VideoReDo Plus or TVSuite. The trial versions here:

Thanks for your help but I'd like to make sure whether the missing part is retrievable or not, anyone else knows about it ?
