MT basics

I have some very basic questions about multi-threading that I can't find simple straight forward answers to in the MT threads. Please would some kind soul explain it in fairly easy terms?

I use MVTools a fair bit and find that I'm getting a processing speed of about 2-5fps. My CPU usage is usually around 65% (Intel core 2 duo). Would using MT improve the fps and optimise use of my system's resources?
Or have I completely misunderstood?

Yes, but if you use slow encoding settings, that's the bottleneck.
