Hi. I have a problem. I cannot seem to playback SVCD in Windows XP's Media Player or the old Media Player using anything but the Elecard codec. Now that's all well and fine but the Elecard DirectShow filter/decoder gives me jerky output. It's not a CPU usage issue either. Plenty of spare processing power as far as I can see. I have tried the PowerDVD Media Player codec and the DVD codec for XP Media Player that has been flaoting around but everytime I try to open SVCD .MPG file I get "ClassFactory cannot supply requested class".

Now some of you may say just to use PowerDVD or WinDVD to playback SVCD's instead of Media PLayer. However I 'NEED' access to the DirectShow filters you can get to in Media Player (Or at least in the older versions not the newer crappier versions). Elecard would be fine if it did not jerk, but I have played SVCD's in PowerDVD and WinDVD and they playback smoothly.

If Media Player had the ability to uninstall/reinstall in XP I would try that. But since they integrated it you cannot uninstall it or install older versions (BOO!).

Has anyone any idea how I can get Media Player to playback SVCD's using the PowerDVD or XP DVD codecs?

If you are running the shareware version of Elecard, you should try the full version. They're available in trial versions of MPEG2 editors from Mediaware Solutions (www.mediawaresolutions.com). Install the demos, copy out the relevant .AX filters, uninstall the demos, and copy the filters back into \SYSTEM (or SYSTEM32) and register them. I only did this with their entry MPEG2 editor, MyFlix XE. The video decoder filter is v1.32; you also need the audio demux filter They also have their pro packages available for eval, though I never bothered. The Elecard codec is slow, regardless.

I tried this with PowerDVD XP, but its filters seem to only work with the program--at least, I can't get them to work with only filter registration.
