Hi all,
I have seen many flash(flv) videos that have very good quality and they all seemed to use the vp6 codec.
Is there any program that will allow me to convert an avi to flv(using the vp6 codec)?
I have installed the vp6 codec, but vdub doesnt allow coonverting to flv, and other programs dont seem to be able to use the vp6
I would really appreciate if someone can tell me if a program can do this and which one :)
Thanks in advance
P.S
I am apologizing in advance if i have posted this in wrong section!

On2 (http://www.on2.com) does provide encoders for VP6, but nowadays Flash Players also support H.264 video and AAC audio in mp4 or flv container and the available encoders for the latter are generally considered to give better quality than any VP6 solution. Also keep in mind that there are probably (not 100% sure) no free VP6 encoders.
I'd advise you to use MeGUI (http://sourceforge.net/projects/megui/) (or any other mpeg4 frontend) and encode your video using x264 and neroaacenc into the mp4 container.

The site that im uploading the video does not support h264 as far as i know and even if i upload the mp4 it will be converted to flv from the website

I will give it a try, but the site limits video files to only 100mb. Its not like youtube where the video lenght is limited, its only the filesize

Total video converter doesnt seem to do the job :(

Total video converter doesnt seem to do the job :(What a surprise, how about you use the tools that were recommended to you?

Well, megui doesnt seem to have an option for FLV

Well, megui doesnt seem to have an option for FLVffmpeg can mux to FLV. See this page (http://rob.opendot.cl/index.php/useful-stuff/ffmpeg-x264-encoding-guide/) for a guide, and if you use Windows, the autobuilds page (http://ffmpeg.arrozcru.com/autobuilds/).
You can probably also use ffmpeg to convert mp4s losslessly to FLVs, via:
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vcodec copy -acodec copy output.flv

Using the command line is hard. I hardly understand how to use it. So not friendly interface

Using the command line is hard. I hardly understand how to use it. So not friendly interfaceIt's hard to copy-paste a single command from a straightforward guide, but it's easy to navigate an incredibly complex program like MeGUI?
Does your brain fall out of your head the instant you see a commandline or something?

Actually i would dare say the same thing. Megui is far too complex. Not user friendly as well. I cannot understand it as well
Edit: Not to mention that ffmpeg uses a lot of resources rendering even browsing useless. Slow encoding...

Every encoder that does NOT use all the resources is not optimized properly. If you want to do other stuff while encoding lower the priority of the ffmpeg process in the task manager.

Hmm, it appears that h264 will just not do. Any program i can use to change(not convert) an AVI container to FLV?

I don't know what's in your avi (probably Xvid/DivX) but if your video site does support H.264 in neither FLV nor MP4 chances are pretty high your attempts to not reencode your file and successfully upload it are close to zero.
Ask the admin of the site what input formats are actually supported and if there even is a way to not let the video be reencoded again by the site. (youtube for examples reencodes all videos you upload, even if they have the same format as the videos created by youtube)

I want to encode a video with the On2 VP6 codec. I have it installed and only vdub can use it. Havent tried the h264 in flv because the quality was bad.
Only vp6 can do it.

You can encode vp6 in avi with vdub and ffmpeg to remux into flv. You may have to fliphorizontal() or flipvertical() (I forget which one)
ffmpeg -i input.avi -vcodec copy -acodec copy output.flv
You might be able to use a GUI for ffmpeg like avanti
If you don't want to do it for free, then you can buy onflix pro, adobe media encoder , or sorensen squeeze, they all can encode vp6
I am 100% certain you will get better quality with h.264 at the same bitrate

Nope i got quite a lot of pixelization, i mean 300 bitrate...a 20 minute video cannot be 100mb with h264. VP6 however can and has better quality than h264 with such bitrate

I think you've crossed the line from "stupid" to "trolling," so I'm giving up here, and I suggest to everyone else to do the same.

No offense, but you must have used the wrong settings or a poor h.264 implemenation if vp6 gave you better quality...It must be user error...I'm 100% certain.

I am not trolling. I just said that vp6 videos have better quality(on the site im talking about) or so i have noticed
poisondeathray-possibilty exists but keeping the size up to 99,9MB is hard

? Don't you mean keeping the size <100MB ?
i.e. below a filesize limit?
Well you have your options listed in this thread. Feel free to play around, but I thought I would save you the time (and waste of when using vp6)
I assure you - especially at low bitrates - h.264 will be significantly better than vp6. One big reason: vp6 has no inloop deblocking
There is 1 scenario where you might use vp6: if alpha channel needs to be preserved

Well yes keeping the file below the filesize limit as well as resizing to exactly 512x288

I'm not sure that it will help, but try - Flash To Video Encoder. And pls say whether it helped 2 u or not.

From the "Flash To Video Encoder"-website:
Flash To Video Encoder allows you convert any Adobe Flash (swf and flv files) to video movie AVI, mp4, WMV, MPEG files or others.
farmdve wants to do the opposite.

I will report if it doesnt work the way i need it to :)

conversion of avi to vp6 flv with only guis-has three steps
1. encode with mp3 at sample rate of 11025,22050 or 44100 Hz, and vp6.2 codec in virtualdub
2. change the four cc to VP6F with nic's fourcc changer (make a backup first)
3. load the new avi with VP6F fourcc in avidemux-leave video and audio at copy-change format from default avi to flv- save
incidentally, this has been mentioned in shodan's original thread on vp6 in flv (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=116493&highlight=vp6+flv)
