I just bought this product and I must say I love it. The resulting quality is excellent. And as much as I love the fact that it encodes the incoming video to H.264 on the fly, I would actually love to do that myself, using presets that are ideal for the type of material it is capturing. The problem is that the software it comes with, Arcsoft MediaExtreme only captures in that format.

What should I do? Should I set the capture setting to its max of 13.5 mbps and re-encode from there, or should I use some different software? I tend to notice it takes quite a while to re-encode the H.264 when it has to decode it and then encode it again.

Really all I am looking for is some software that can capture in a lossless, or close to lossless format.

If you guys have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. I dual-boot linux and windows, so any software recommendations you have can work for both.

You can't avoid the hardware AVC encoder, so all you can do is set the highest bitrate possible and go from there *if you must*.

Ah, I didn't know it was at a hardware level. I'll just deal with the default encoding. It really isn't bad by any means. Thanks.
