Nevermind,

I was using my computers at work. I just had to reinstall the codecs. When I opened the file in Nan Dub it said DivX 4.12. So I didn't understand, but I didn't think about it being the actual codecs installed on the machine.

Nandub can't handle DivX4 encoding, only DivX3. Must be a mistake somewhere...

GKnot CAN encode to DivX 4. Nothing new there. But it doesn't use Nandub to do it. It uses VirtualDub. If you look in the GKnot folder, you'll find VirtualDub in there. So your friend probably encoded with DivX 4 and thought VirtualDub was Nandub, especially since they look alike.

All we used Gknot for was creating the avs file. I walked him through the settings in Nan Dub. We set the SBC settings to Enable luminance correction and change the low pass filter to 2250 in stead of 6000. So I know we used Nan Dub. I understand Nan Dub doesn't encode in DivX 4 format that is why I made this post. Maybe the AVI tag is wrong. I don't know, but I don't like the results. It looks horrible.

So since Virtual Dub doesn't have SBC settings he couldn't have thought Virtual Dub was Nan Dub. I am as stummped as you guys. Before this i would have swore up and down that it is impossible. I am sure it isn't something you could do if you tried to.

He may have had DivX 4.12 before we installed Gknot which installs DivX 4.11. We didn't uninstall the old codec first this may have been the problem. Or could it be if he set play all divX 3 files with DivX 4 codec on installation? There are so many things that could be causing it.

I think your question might just have been answered.

How did you come to the conclusion that the avi produced was created by DivX 4? The only sure way to know is to look at the FourCC code. If the FourCC code is DIVX, it was in fact made using DivX 4. However, if it is DIV3 or DIV4, it was made using DivX 3.11. That's one way to make sure.
