How to watch videos with black bars?

Currently im using MPC(the one from 08') + FFDshow rev 3054 + some splitters i dled from here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/files/)(mkv and flv)

when playing some mkv's i get some black bars on the side like here:

should i instead be using this latest MPC-HC http://tosei.ru/isoft/mpc/Dist/ with haali and forget about ffdshow? mpc-hc uses its own decoders right?

Only if you enable them in the options OR there simply is no other decoder for a video/audio stream installed. Whatever gave you the idea MPC-HC forced it's built-in decoders on you?
