So KMPlayer being pretty much dead and slow/buggy, say "Hello" to YoungHuee Kang's new player(all pics are clickable thumbnails):
http://www.pixelz.fr/3/2/3/c9fdafaf99e4e08f27064ab4e39c0.jpg (http://www.pixelz.fr/a/2/e/f32d6c5658996bcc9ddc95af44a3c.png)
These are 21 video files opened in "seamless playback" mode(you can use the "previous"/"next" buttons to instantly skip between them):
http://www.pixelz.fr/5/9/9/93a97e5bf0e4d00990e175db97245.jpg (http://www.pixelz.fr/f/d/4/5d59ea650595e9ca3d67dbb65e5dc.png)
It works w/ madVR/HR/EVR and Reclock of course...it's a much improved/faster version of KMP, including ffdshow and some other stuff to connect to a Korean-only video/chat network.
It supports seamless playback(up to 1000 -one thousand- AVI/WMV/MKV/MPG files at once, mixed containers are allowed), auto-resume on the last 200 opened files, has fully configurable XML skin files and also a D3D exclusive mode http://forum.slysoft.com/images/smilies/agreed.gif
You can always get the latest english translated x86 beta here (http://www.dvbsupport.net/download/index.php?act=view&id=230)(thank you so much to the translators, without whom none of this would be happening http://forum-images.hardware.fr/images/perso/otakonleboss.gif) and the latest english translated x64 stable build there (http://www.dvbsupport.net/download/index.php?act=view&id=236)(they don't release x64 betas).
Older english translated betas are available here (http://www.sat-universe.com/showthread.php?p=628625)(registration required, but you can also subscribe to their thread for instant software update email notifications http://static.rankone.nl/site_images/smilies/6/flower.gif)
The latest x86 Korean-only beta is always available here (http://get.daum.net/PotPlayer/Beta/PotPlayerSetup.exe). The latest changelog in english can always be found there (http://www.dvbsupport.net/info/potplayer.html).
There's also a localized version in French available here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=162038).
There's a big pack of skins available here (http://good.gd/372905.htm) and another one there (http://testes.dreamhosters.com/PotPlayer_78_Skins_pack.7z)(thanks zegames). There's also a pack of russian translated skins right here (http://rghost.net/tags/Daum%20PotPlayer%20skins).
I've also made my own TMT3 skin mod (http://www.mediafire.com/?av6i833sst11x2z)(last updated on 09/09/11):
http://www.pixelz.fr/8/d/7/da580b5c49d1a33feea09f820d39f.jpg (http://www.pixelz.fr/5/0/1/d54d0040a5a429bd69335178ef663.png)
that adds buttons to:
-toggle seamless playback
-skip between MKV/MP4 chapters/files opened in seamless playback mode
-A/B repeat
-show the movie frame rate directly onto the transport bar
-pan & scan helper(no need to bother w/ the numeric pad anymore), which looks like this: http://www.pixelz.fr/2/e/3/e4e7e29a9e2add8ffde7b3e9ea13b.jpg (http://www.pixelz.fr/e/7/b/3984a8614e8412e5b3f7f0fbe6b4c.png)
All the buttons in the transport bar have right-click functions for bookmarks/favorites/pan & scan presets and so on.
PotPlayer imports MKV chapters automatically, so the two chapters skipping buttons do come in very handy:
http://www.pixelz.fr/1/5/3/767ab0dd13709da7d2bb66a07b2f7.jpg (http://www.pixelz.fr/5/5/d/fa5f8b67b4adeaef14af023539eb1.png)
There's a pretty extensive list of the PotPlayer skin commands here (http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&u=http://potplayer.5d6d.com/viewthread.php%3Ftid%3D938).
kotlmg has converted the KMP icons for PotPlayer use (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1504763&postcount=1455).
Personally, I've deleted all the files in PotPlayer's folder except for PotPlayerMini.exe, PotPlayer.dll and the skin file I'm using...this ensures that ffdshow/madFlac/LAV CUVID Decoder are doing all the decoding. This seems to break DVD playback, so use w/ caution.
In case of any bug/feature request, you can register on the official forum (http://cafe362.daum.net/_c21_/bbs_list?grpid=1E88b&fldid=AZMV) and most likely get a very swift reply/bugfix(posting in english is allowed).

if anyone finds an english.ini to splayer(GPL MPC HC mod), I'd love to try it too :
This is screenshot from svplayer? My looks different:
Edit: site with linked image is down, link removed.
Edit: or splayer and svplayer are 2 different things

I got it through Google...can you run it in english somehow? does it support madVR?
I've managed to turn down the video transform filter in PotPlayer, but I can't seem to find where to turn off the audio one..
Keiyakusha
7th August 2009, 01:46
No, I can't change the language yet... I downloaded player from here (http://svplayer.cn/) (I just edited link to svn).
Edit: I don't see madvr support but I haven't had time to look at it closely.

Greetings leeperry. Great find.
Does the built-in VC1 decoder work on interlaced contents?
Many thanks and best regards.
leeperry
7th August 2009, 12:04
np, enjoy! and let us know about your findings :)
it's got ffdshow embedded, and svplayer has a cracked version of CoreAVC included(China doesn't care about copyrights)...it's KMP w/ new options(D3D exclusive mode, etc)

PotPlayer's internal video decoder supports DXVA of MPEG1/2, WMV8, WMV9, VC1 and H264. For MPEG1/2, WMV8/9 and VC1 it supports IDCT and motion compensation level accelleration, which means older cards like GeForece 6/7 series could also benefit from DXVA.
Keiyakusha
7th August 2009, 19:22
damn, I can't disable the pesky audio transform filter :(
By the way about these transforms. Are they doing something bad? I think if you don't set to do something in settings, they just sitting there...
Overall nice player but to much unneeded (for me) stuff.
leeperry
7th August 2009, 19:27
yeah I was wondering that too tbh..I output 32float from ffdshow to Reclock(which resamples to 24int)
you can disable both A/V transform filters in KMP...why not in PotPlayer? you can only disable the video one there
and anyway because you can't disable it, it takes over madflac and ffdshow audio...I'm using a custom mixing matrix in ffdshow audio, so that's a no go for me.
and I was hoping for madVR support, this is not supported.

Sorry I don't understand. Did you tried this (http://img2.pict.com/bc/7a/8e/1425191/0/x1.png)? Don't know about madflac but looks like I have no problems with ffdshow (http://img2.pict.com/51/53/5e/1425195/0/x2.png).

yes, AC3/DTS seem to go through ffdshow audio(which I have set in the options as you just showed)...but FLAC in a MKV container is decoded by the built-in filter no matter what, I can't get it to use madflac(+ffdshow audio post-processing).
and these day I enjoy lossless tracks a lot(especially 7.1 24bit, which only madflac can decode properly), DTS just sounds lousy in comparison of FLAC...I believe I read some tests that were proving that 1.5mbit DTS doesn't give better results than 448kbit AC3

it supports seamless playback, auto-resume and has a nice GUI, the top 3 features of KMP imhoAre these the main (possibly only?) things you are missing from MPC-HC?
leeperry
7th August 2009, 22:40
I think so, yeah :)
I can just stop ANY movie I want, play it again after several hours/days and it'll start right where I stopped it...so nice!
and I can have 100 video files in a folder(TV series, etc), and it will open them seamlessly...so great!
and I really can't bear the yellow speaker in MPC HC anyway :D ..I know I can remove it w/ resedit, but it still looks lifeless. we're not in 1995 anymore, the transport bar is so yesterday :o
KMP on a 2 meters wide projection screen just looks slick as hell :
http://thumbnails19.imagebam.com/4453/208dad44521156.gif (http://www.imagebam.com/image/208dad44521156)
PS: well the "A>B" buttons are pretty cool too, you can loop any section of the movie you want.......then you can slow it down w/ Reclock. KMP is just beyond words!

PS: well the "A>B" buttons are pretty cool too, you can loop any section of the movie you want.......then you can slow it down w/ Reclock. KMP is just beyond words! To get what you want in MPC would require
1. A complete rewrite of the playlist code, which would add those features and some others.
2. Making the player skinable or something
In the meantime, the current icon could be replaced with a nicer one i guess? if you have a better icon(GPL compatible) that fits in the current framework i see no problem with updating to that one.
leeperry
7th August 2009, 22:59
well, a slicker seeking bar "indicator" and the ability to turn off volume control altogether would be really great...I use DirectKS in Reclock, so I really don't need volume control(I use Volumouse to change the master volume). you can see that I've taken off volume control in my KMP skin ;)
I'm just amazed by how much work the original KMP coder has put into KMP and PotPlayer....I know he stole a lot of code from MPC and ffdshow, but still!
tetsuo55
7th August 2009, 23:38
Yeah and if he had simply joined the mpc-hc team we would have ok'd at least 95% of those changes, and the remaing 5% would be possible in a branch or fork, keeping all updates in sync.

well, I just remembered that MPC is a no go for me anyway, as it always remains as a system process when I close it...many other ppl have this problem on HCFR.
something to do w/ ffdshow I think(avisynth related? or maybe winamp2 plugin), never had this problem in KMP..

I gave some ProcessExplorer logs to Casimir about this issue, but he was so busy w/ DXVA at the time that he couldn't look into it.
well, some thread is not killed properly when I close the player...so it remains as a system process. I believe it's due to the winamp2 plugin in ffdshow, but it never happens in KMP.
just like the deadlock w/ Reclock in MPC that Beliyaal fixed, god this one was annoying! MPC was randomly freezing on seeks :o
tetsuo55
8th August 2009, 00:45
Allright, wait for casimir to look into that then.
leeperry
8th August 2009, 02:20
well, that was like 1 year ago ;)
and it's definitely due to the ffdshow Avisynth filter, as the guys on HCFR were also using that...but don't bother, I'll wait for mVR support in KMP.
leeperry
8th August 2009, 17:53
Is startup still slooooooooooooooow?
it all depends. MPC takes 1/10th of a second to open, KMP 1/4" : http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11629
if 1/4" is slooooooooooooooow to you, then PotPlayer doesn't look any faster to me. KMP has far more features than MPC, it'll cost ya 1/4" for each file...it's a take it or leave it kinda deal http://forum-images.hardware.fr/images/perso/vignos.gif

Sorry for asking here. I just saw your screenshot of KMPLayer...
How to make this thing (http://www.petaimg.com/u22/175Untitled-1.jpg) brighter or change its color? Is there any skin similar to built-in but only with this thing changed or it is possible to change this in settings?
Because I broke my eyes with this gray tones.
stax76
8th August 2009, 20:46
It's about 5 seconds.
leeperry
8th August 2009, 21:11
it is possible to change this in settings?
Because I broke my eyes with this gray tones.
I took the skin file from here: http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9507
it's a zip file, and I used HR's OSD green color on all the GUI components :)
It's about 5 seconds.
lol? what kind of specs is your system?
MPC opens the same file instantly? you're using stuff like Reclock/ffdshow's avisynth and so?
I have to admit that I've copied KMP on a ramdisk, and I've deleted all the DLL's in its folder except :
KIconLib.dll
MediaInfo.dll
PProcDLL.DLL
update to the latest beta, disable all the internal filters, and keep the settings in the registry...an .ini file makes it slow as hell to open
KMP is not quite easy to setup, but when it works...it's dynamite!
Keiyakusha

you can also mess w/ the .ini files if you want: http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14449
I made KMP look exactly the way I want it: I took off the top/side borders, put the currently playing filename at the bottom, removed the volume control.
I guess you could do the same in PotPlayer ;)
stax76
8th August 2009, 22:59
Tried it and startup was less 2 seconds which is OK.
leeperry
9th August 2009, 00:02
it clearly doesn't take 2" for me...try to delete all the DLL's in its folder and only keep those I listed above, and disable the internal filters.
Astrophizz
9th August 2009, 00:55
The guy in that thread you linked was on an overclocked CPU with the files on a ramdisk.... That's not really comparable to the average computer setup. MPC would also start a lot faster with those measures taken. The thing that cripples startup time for me is Reclock, so I stopped using it (took forever to open a video).
leeperry
9th August 2009, 01:05
lol that guy is........me :D
and I had both KMP and MPC on the same defragmented ramdisk(DDR2-553)
you also need to fiddle w/ Reclock to make it start faster, like disabling the DS estimator and so on
what kills the actual video playback opening time for me is my Avisynth scripts and my winamp2 plugin...they both add significant latency.
CoreAVC CUDA also did, so I ditched it! ffdshow-mt is much faster to open.

sadly no... but langfile is an xml document so translation shouldn't be hard. (no I'm not saying that I'll do that, Korean is not my strong side).

EDIT2: it seems to be based on ffdshow

So this is all useless bloatware that has tiny non-mentionable features integrated into them. MPC-HC plays every file I throw at it with FFDSHOW+CoreAVC. That is everything anyone should need.

You are wrong. That is everything you need. But other people such as KMPlayer fans can argue with this. To me this player looks somewhat similar to KMPlayer/PotPlayer I thought this may be interesting to someone. I am MPC-HC fan, but I think that all internal filters in it is a useless bloatware, so what? I can live with that because other things are awesome.

well, where do we start? I don't really use PotPlayer, but I think it essentially does everything KMP does + some korean TV stuff:
-seamless playback of up to 100 files in a row, they will be virtually pasted as one...meaning, you can seek into any of them instantly.
-totally crazy subs support, everything you could think of is configurable
-very nice GUI(*not* WMP6.4 like), and there's hundreds of them available too.
and many more features I don't care for...I use it as a frontend to ffdshow/CoreAVC/Reclock/madVR, I don't use the built-in filters.

thanks gonna check it out, though i read on different forum that it isn't as powerful as KM/Potplayer
*sigh* if only mpc-hc have better playlist handling or kmplayer isn't so prone to crash with ffdshow+avisynth+madvr... :(
leeperry

kmplayer [..] so prone to crash with ffdshow+avisynth+madvr... :(
huh? works like a charm here...what avisynth plugins exactly? I use LSF on all my videos, and mt_masktools.dll >2.0.32 crash randomly yes...but it happens to many ppl, not just me.

Many but if I have to list :
SetMemoryMax(512)
SetMTMode(3,3)
ffdshow_source()
SetMTMode(2,3)
mt("toonLite()",3,2)
setmtmode(5)
fft3dgpu(sigma=1,bh=32,bw=32)
setmtmode(2,3)
gradFunkMirror()
spline36resize(1360,768)
awarpsharp2()
SetMTMode(1)
GetMTMode(false) > 0 ? distributor() : last
This script is mainly for viewing anime, anyway with KMplayer it'll always crash when I close it and I hate how ffdshow menu always become out of focus if I call it via kmplayer filter while playing a file, I like to fiddle the script. MPC-HC will play and close just fine.
leeperry
12th May 2010, 02:37
I understand SetMTMode() will run in asynchronous mode(that's what HR's jitter was showing me anyway), did you try:
SetMemoryMax(512)
MT("""
toonLite()
fft3dgpu(sigma=1,bh=32,bw=32)
gradFunkMirror()
spline36resize(1360,768)
awarpsharp2()
""",4)
you could also run some benchmarks in VDUB, but this should work fine(and be faster too?)...feeding frames asynchronously is not that good for realtime playback IMHO.
that's funny, KMP always closes like a charm for me...but MPC-HC remains as an active process half of the time. tetsuo is aware of the issue, as I'm far from being the only one encountering it.

Nah the script's alright, it run nice enough in my system and also MT have problem with fft3dgpu, resizer and awarpsharp, specific to each one. There's also other version with Dehalo_alpha and it stresses my cpu more than any game. :p
As for closing problem I dunno, maybe our OS is different? I use Win 7 btw (and latest kmplayer/mpc-hc svn).

How about nicer switching out of DirectX Exclusive mode (continue playback in windowed mode on switch out) that Player like Zoomplayer and KMP support for MPC-HC, that's a request i have for years now ahh and TWOS/SOWT support in Gabest MP4/MOV splitter would be cool like Haali supports it, though as i heard MPC-HC devs want to replace all the Source Splitters with Libavformat that's gonna be Powerful but i wonder how the interoperability to directshow will work as all these parser are native and not made in mind for directshow interoperability :)
Isn't it harder to adapt Libavformat to directshow then trying to fix most of the issues and playback formats with the current directshow source filter ?

Here (http://www.wikifortio.com/764565/English.xml.zip) you go. press F5 and choose english at the bottom of the window. Looks nice by the way. At least worth a try. However I launched it only from isolated environment so not responsible for any harm :Р
I've been translating. Xml to English, was actually Google, I just put the translation into xml, PotPlayer has the following differences:
- The module's internal subtitle PotPlayer is the same that comes in FFDSHOW, you can use it as well vsfitler;
- Was removed and gen_ml.dll mediainfo.dll that existed in KMP, then PotPlayer not have the Media Library and the functions it had lost Alt + J and Ctrl + Tab;
The internal-codecs PotPlayer is based on the version of FFDSHOW which supports DXVA;
These are just some things I noticed, but between the KMPlayer, and PotPlayer TokPlayer, I prefer the KMP, but this is a bit left, so until we have news about KMP, I'm using PotPlayer, which I translated as well ( version of April 15, 2010), but in this case to my native language.

how do you use that english.xml for potplayer exactly?
I downloaded potplayer from here:

After I hit F5, I don't see a language list to choose from.
Thanks.

The xml is for TokPlayer (www.tokplayer.com), to use it in tokplayer just copy the xml to the folder "lang" and open the player, press F5 and switch Korean to English. To translate the PotPlayer you have to translate two dlls (PotPlayer.dll and DPShell.dll), this makes it difficult to upgrade, once you upgrade PotPlayer he goes back to the original language, it would be better if the translation was in a specific file.

I suspected the problem is in the english.xml given by Keiyakusha in here: http://www.mediafire.com/?2hjm2ezoqyd I thought there might be some incompatibility with the xml tagging which is making the program deny using this version, so I compared the korean with english version, and, well, the english.xml has "Host: www.mediafire." in it, so yeah, pretty sure the file's corrupted.
You seem to be using a different english.xml. Can you upload yours somewhere? Or maybe Keiyakusha could put the working copy in a zip file and kindly upload it again.

ok ran this exe through https://www.virustotal.com/ and trying it as I'm typing this...a lot of missing features from KMP are actually in PotPlayer :)
like in KMP you can only set the media volume to the audio renderer directly(like in MPC) or to the windows master volume...in PotPlayer you can also set it on the WAVE volume, very handy!
it's also finally possible to disable the audio transform filter: http://thumbnails23.imagebam.com/8393/05636083926565.jpg (http://www.imagebam.com/image/05636083926565)

I also wish there were a "NEXT" button when you open a lot of files seamlessly in KMP...and it's also freezing on seek sometimes in seamless mode, I've made many bug reports about this on the official forum :(
anyways, it seems that KMP/MPC like to probe my soundcard for supported sample rates each time I open a movie..and my external S/PDIF DAC really hates this, I don't get a single glitch or pop in PotPlayer  If kyh also fixed the random freezing on seamless playback, I'll prolly switch. I also hope you can finetune the GUI like in KMP coz I've spent quite some time on my KMP skin and I looooove it the way it is.
PS: one thing's for sure, it opens VERY fast! KMP takes forever to open a video file..
PPS: after taking ages setting all the options, this player kills! http://thumbnails26.imagebam.com/8395/6a6a1883943148.jpg (http://www.imagebam.com/image/6a6a1883943148)

I believe Potplayer's gui is fairly flexible. At least judging by this skin: Perilla Leaf (http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&sl=zh-TW&u=http://dreamxis.blogbus.com/logs/64372191.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Ddreamxis%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DG&rurl=translate.google.com&twu=1&usg=ALkJrhjWCg53MC6YbETq67jlthUWuo4VTQ). It's Google translated from Chinese but still pretty incoherent to me. Anyways I think the person is complaining about some limitations and lack of documentation. But then again he/she made that skin.
leeperry
11th June 2010, 01:57
yes, there's an xml file I'll have a look at it :)
so after some more testing, it overcomes all the bad sides of KMP:
-instant opening, KMP takes AGES to even show up
-seamless playback doesn't seem to randomly crash on seek anymore
-KMP has recently been multithreaded....but wow, PP is blazing fast! It's a combo made in heaven w/ mVR :)
-I get glitch-free PCM over S/PDIF, unlike MPC/KMP that like to glitch up before the movie starts
the only thing I'm worried about is that it's based on KMP's code, and the code to hide the mouse cursor didn't work for me until they very recently fixed it(it works in MPC)...I'll have to watch many movies to check whether it's still there. I've looked for an email/forum for bug reports in case it is, but I'm really not sure who to whine to if need be :o
PS: humm, getting seamless playback to work on AVI takes a lot of luck..WMV is fine, though.
PPS: the GUI is a bit broken, if you want to forbid multiples instances you have to add this to the registry:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DAUM\PotPlayerMini\Settings]
"AllowMultiple"=dword:00000000

...
I'll see if there's any benefit switching from KMP
probably faster + less bugs&crashes&hangs etc... because KMP is already dead player... :p
...
the only thing I'm worried about is that it's based on KMP's code...
because same developer (Kang, YoungHuee) create this players, and PotPlayer is rewritten in C++ as far I remember

O RLY? anyway I haven't had any funky mouse cursor appearing for no reason in the middle of a movie so far, hopefully it's been fixed for good :)
the only bummer is that seamless playback seems erratic on AVI files :(
even if I check "open all files in folder", most of the times it doesn't work :/
it works fine on WMV, I will have to try MKV

First impressions are very good. Paired with madVR this seems totally out of this world, extremely smooth and seemless playback. I really like the already built-in skins, which perfectly match the playerīs other capabilities. You can even hide the skin completely, which is a nice touch.
However, Iīm not sure why I have to enable "Open a file using thread to fix freeze" under the playback tab, since the player instantly freezes without this option checked. Really took ages to find the problem, this seems to have solved it.
Does anyone also need this checked? I would really like to know what exactly this does.

Nice player but one thing I cant seem to find is the default playback method resizes a video to the window size, is there a setting that makes it resize the player to the videos resolution like in MPC-HC or VLC's default playback method. I've looked through the settings and tried a few but cant find this.

I found it, f5->playback->screen size-> set to "screen size x 1.0 (100%)".

If anyone cares I've removed the top section and the right-side shorcut to the playlist from the default skin..much better IMHO(it's a ZIP file): http://www.mediafire.com/file/ydyo2jddygd/default2.dsf
and I've deleted all the files in its folder except:
PotPlayerMini.exe
PotPlayer.dll
\Skins\default2.dsf
this ensures that ffdshow's being used for everything.
that's too bad there's no shortcut to the filters list on the transport bar like in KMP, you're forced to get into the menus..and w/ the brilliant recent changes to ffdshow, it takes a lot of submenus to finally reach ffdshow's config

closing fine here on XP SP3 :)
but a few annoying problems for me:
-the A/B buttons don't work on the default skin...too bad, duh
-I've set the left mouse button to go windowed/FS, in KMP you can click anywhere on the bottom transport bar and you stay in FS...not in PotP, if you don't click exactly on the "time line" it reverts to windowed, very annoying :/
-Sometimes I get some weird noisy sound over PCM S/PDIF, it's very rare but it's never happened in KMP
and about opening times, PotP is just cheating I think! Yes, the GUI shows up right away but it seems to take the same amount of time as KMP to actually play the video file.
I've notified kyh96403 on several of his email accounts about those points + a few other minor bugs, but no reply so far.

Also:
How do I get the subtitles not to shift down (so that they remain the the video frame)? Or how do I use an external subtitle filter? That's like the one filter that I can't seem to change.

How do I get the subtitles not to shift down (so that they remain the the video frame)?
I also want to know this. Subtitles that painted on vmr/evr surfaces are displayed on black bars no matter what and they shifted if user interface appears, which is somehow distracting.
But anyway overall subtitle support is still not that good so we probably should use vsfilter...

I've never used vsfiter(I was using the built-in subs engine of KMP w/HR, and now use ffdshow w/mVR) but maybe you can force it in /Filter Control/Custom Filter Manager/...add it manually and set it to "prefer". You may also need to use HMS, as the built-in MKV splitter will prolly favor its built-in subs engine.
there's 3 options to hide the mouse cursor, one in the /Playback/ options, one in the /Video/ options and one in the right-click menu under /Options/. It's working perfectly fine for me on XP SP3 so far.
You can set 2 hotkeys for the vertical placement of the subs, the setting should be remembered over sessions...but yes the subs engine doesn't look as sophisticated as KMP as of now, don't be afraid of making feature requests ;)

just a few thing I have noticed when trying this player out.
1. No option to disable internal filter for SD sources (I use ffdshow externally for upscaling SD content). EDIT: I found the resizing option for internal decoder so may not be an issue.
2. No 24P mode. All 23.976FPS or 29.97FPS material is played at their default speed. MPC HC converts 23.976FPS and 29.97FPS into 24FPS
3. Lack of display switching (Switching display to 50Hz for 25FPS material).
4. Using MadVR causes instant player lockup and has to be killed in Task Manager.
5. No option to automatically set subs to 720P resize like in MPC HC? I guess I will have ot guesstimate the font size? How do es that work for .ass subs though?
6. No audio delay option? I need a 125ms delay due to lag in video to my home cinema setup. If I am missing it please point it out to me thanks. BTW I know about the menu for audio sync by 0.1 increments. But I want a box I can enter it and set it and forget it in ms rather than fractional seconds.
Just a few things off the top of my head. But to me the most useful is to disable use of the internal video decoder for SD sources. Without this I find it less usefull than MPC HC.
On the plus side I preferred KMPlayer's subtitle rendering which I assume is the same in PotPlayer.

2. Only Reclock can do that AFAIK, PotPlayer has a "playback speed" setting, though.
3. Can't comment on MPC as I don't use it, but Reclock can do it via its .vbs script
4. No problem here, everything works like a charm w/ madVR 0.19/0.21 on XP SP3

Sorry, maybe I missed your answer but do you know what does this option in MPC-HC:
options - subtitles - default style - position subtitles relative to the video frame?
is there some analog in PotPlayer that will stop GDI subs (vmr/evr) to be drawn outside of the video frame?
UPD: There is some options that seems to be related to this, but I don't see any effect. Maybe they need some built-in filter to be on... or off
It is possible to use another mode which is designed for tv-out but I didn't played much with it since as I understand it renders subtitles in every frame, like vsfilter.

Yes I also need subtitles relative to frame.
1. Yes I know that. But I want the internal filter for DXVA and to use the resize option to upscale SD content. If I went all external filters it would mess up that way of working as I could no longer get DXVA as it would not switch between ffdshow DXVA and standard Non-DXVA ffdshow for SD upscaling.
2. ReClock is not the only filter to do 24FPS. MPC HC happily converts 23.976 and 29.97 to 24FPS. When you check the renderer (I use Custom CP) it shows it at that (It fluctuates a little as it tries to match it though and I get occasional dropped frames).
3. Well that's all well and good but ReClock is a BAD way of doing things especially when it comes to bitstreaming and speedup/slowdown of audio (I can hear the packets get dropped when forcing 24FPS).
4. I am using Windows 7 and latest MadVR build. Mind you it never works with MPC HC properly either. Might just be a problem with the latest build though. Not sure.

It seems the the startup is a bit faster then KMP was (maybe it's just my new SSD or something else). Is there support for the MS remote? It seems not even the basic keys work and that keys work in pretty much all players except PotPlayer.

How did you get the mkv chapters to work? I press "next" and it jumps to the next file in the directory.
Also:
How do I get the subtitles not to shift down (so that they remain the the video frame)? Or how do I use an external subtitle filter? That's like the one filter that I can't seem to change.
My mouse won't disappear during playback, even though the settings say it should.
In the case of chapters in mkv I'm in the "Filters>" and moved there, because the command "next" by default is used to jump to the next similar file in the folder.
.The commands Alt+I Alt+V and are the commands that let the captions under the picture or on the black stripe in PotPlayer.
. I can use the vsFilter / DirectVobSub in PotPlayer (Actually I prefer to use it), go to "Custom Filter Manager> Add External Filter" then then load the dll "vsFilter", after changing the priority of "DirectVobSub" to "Prefer "worked perfectly here with mkv files with subtitles ass/ssa inside.
And another thing, to me the function to continue the playback where you left off is not working in the latest build, does anyone have this problem?
I'm sorry, my answers are using the Google Translator

works fine here, I just checked. anyway, the fancy installer of the english version messes up w/ the registry entries...so I always backup/restore the HKCU/DAUM tree

not sure, go ask on their board maybe...AFAICR I used to move the vertical alignment of subs for each movie (w/ my mouse wheel+one mouse button pushed).

1. You can create automatic profiles depending on the files dimensions in the "configuration management"
2. A lot of things are half-working in MPC-HC, Reclock does proper speed adaptations...no dropped frames.
3. Reclock should be allowed to work in PCM indeed, otherwise it'll be a packets slaughter
4. No idea, post logs and ask in the mVR thread maybe

yes, much faster now(I got it on a ramdisk)
I can't tell about any remote support, but I've set some global hotkeys that I trigger from my Griffin Powermate, it works perfectly!

Anyone else noticed that you cannot change the size from the subtitles? I tried to manually set it via the options menu and to change it using Alt + PGUP / Alt + PGDN, but both didn't work. I am using build 1.5.22857.

Could someone ask the devs to add support for madVR fullscreen exclusive support? No, madVR does not really support fullscreen exclusive mode yet. However, madVR has a new interface which the media player can invoke to activate madVR fullscreen exclusive mode. It doesn't really work yet, but the feature can already be implemented in the media player and later, when a new madVR version finally implements fullscreen exclusive mode, it will then automatically work with all media players which have implemented support for this feature. MPC-HC already has this implemented. Instructions for devs are contained in the text file "devInfo.txt" shipping with madVR 0.22.

However for the majority of what I do it doesn't want to work at all, I have DVR-MS files capped from DVB-T which are MPEG2/AC3 typically and it just does not want to play them at all, I get garbled audio and no picture. Any suggestions?

you could delete all the files in PotP's folder except for the files mentioned in the OP, check what filters are used in MPC-HC for the same files and force them manually in PotP: http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/3647/33664105.th.png (http://img84.imageshack.us/f/33664105.png/)

Hi, hopefully someone will spare the time to help me with simple instructions as i'm new new to this.
Through PotPlayer I would like to use CoreAVC to decode my x264 .mvk rips and ffdshow to decode my XviD .avi rips.
I would also like to use AC3Filter to decode the AC3 and DTS audio tracks on the above rips.
I would like to do this portably from one folder if possible.
So on my desktop I have a PotPlayer folder which contains the files:
PotPlayerMini.exe
PotPlayer.dll
CoreAVCDecoder.ax
ffdshow.ax
ac3filter.ax
Then I load up PotPlayer, browse to preferences/video decoder/filter management and add the three filters through 'add external filters...'
From here I go back to preferences/video decoder and change MPEG2 & XVID to use ffdshow and H264 to use CoreAVC then under preferences/audio decoder change AC3 & DTS to use AC3Filter.
Should this work and is there any way to check it is working and also is there any different ways/programs/settings that may achieve better results?
Thanks.

It might work by manually registering each filter(regsvr32 ___.ax") but if I were you, I'd just do full installations of the latest ffdshow tryout(http://www.xvidvideo.ru/ffdshow-tryouts-project-x86-x64), CoreAVC 2.0 and AC3Filter.

Reproduce:
1: Make at least 2 album and add files to each their.
2: Switch to any album except the "Default Album"
3: Close the player
4: Open any File Manager (I tried with Windows Explorer and Total Commander)
5: Open any file with double click from the file manager.
6: After start playing the previously opened file, open an other file from file manager.
7: All file disappear from the album which has been selected before close player and the size of <albumname>.dpl file change to 40KB in the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\PotPlayerMini\Playlist\ path.

you could delete all the files in PotP's folder except for the files mentioned in the OP, check what filters are used in MPC-HC for the same files and force them manually in PotP:
It was actually a lot simpler than this, looks like the internal ASF filter is borked, I switched to the system ASF splitters and it is working Ok although it seems to be deinterlacing in the decoder and then agian after, but I'll sort that out.

Performance seems excellent for me, although its defaulted to the Cyberlink MPEG2 decoder and I'd prefer Microsoft... I think I've been spoilt by the easy external filter handling in MPC-HC!
Its odd that it seems so hard to get the best overall solution for watching interlaced MPEG2 ;)
EDIT: Got MS MPEG2 filter going and in NV12 colourspace so I should have auto graphics card deinterlacing, looking good so far.
Is it just me or is all the new funky stuff in MPC-HC lately making it harder to get good performance with something basic like my requirement?

new english translated build:
PotPlayer 1.5.23269
Fixed issues with switching to madVR renderer
Not sure what this change is referring to. Does anyone have an idea which bug this change is supposed to fix?
And while weīre at it, build 1.5.23260 fixed PotPlayer hanging while playing a file when the option "Open a file using thread to fix freeze" is unticked. It now works all the time. Great!

good point! PotP hangs sometimes when I seek within regular AVI files...using HMS seems to fix this problem, but it still happens in seamless playback mode(using the built-in "seamless parser"). I was forced to check that "thread" option, otherwise PotP would hang when switching from windowed mode to FS before the picture showed up. It doesn't happen anymore, I need more time to confirm whether that'll fix my seeking hanging problem too.
PS: humm, it still freezes if I disable it.

Have been an avid user of KMPlayer for about a year but it was not without its problems and lack of updates!!
I am so happy to have stumbled upon this player only last week which Ig ot through the links of this site.
I have a few questions:
1) saving all my settings/prefs - i have exported preset to a reg file but dont know if it saves evrything. i fear that i need a potplayer.ini file generated which i cannot find! i have 'store ini file' ticked in general!
How do i save all my prefs/generate and find the ini file?
2)dts spdif comes up out as dd on my amp? im still receiving multi channel but it weird - any ideas?
i havent clicked anything on the passthrough options (DTS, DTS etc) as they make the sound mute when ticked.
all answers will be greatly appreciated.

Normally it directly creates the ini file if you tick it in the options. Atleast I got the potplayermini.ini.

KMP was slower to open if you used the .ini file, you may wanna compare as I did a while ago: http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11629
I usually backup HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Daum\
Can't comment on AC3/DTS over S/PDIF, but PCM works like a charm...a lot better than in KMP/MPC, which is fantastic :)

BTW, you can easily modify skins to have 2 buttons to skip between chapters by using "ID_BOOKMARK_PREV" and "ID_BOOKMARK_NEXT". I haven't checked whether that was compatible w/ MKV using HMS yet...prolly not, the built-in MKV splitter might be required.
I've set ą5ms skipping on the mousewheel, so I put those 2 commands on the << >> buttons of the skin..might come in handy, as it should also work on DVD.

Hm, never had that seeking problem with AVI files and Iīve got quite a lot of them, even very old and ancient ones (from <2002) which tend to be very problematic with certain combinations of decoders. I am using the built-in decoders and splitters whenever possible, since the built-in stuff really works great (apart from the VC-1 decoder, ffdshow is often more compatible). Also, when using the built-in decoders, the player windows reacts very fluid when I move it across my screen, while, when using ffdshow, the player window is a bit jerky. Not sure whatīs the cause for this behaviour, though. But thatīs just nitpicking, really.
I also didnīt really believe it at first, but I just checked it again, just to be sure. I donīt need that "open thread fix" option ticked anymore, itīs working totally flawless with madVR 0.23 or other renderers now.
I have not changed anything on my system for about 3 months except for the following:
1) Updated NVIDIA drivers from 197.xx to 258.xx
2) Updated madVR from 0.21 (or 0.22, canīt remember) to 0.23
3) Updated PotPlayer to 1.5 build 23260
Out of curiosity Iīve just tested going back from madVR 0.23 to 0.21 and it still worked with the option unticked. So this is either related to the NVIDIA drivers or (that would make more sense) to the new PotPlayer build. Just FYI, not sure if that helps at all.

I have an o/c Q9450 CPU, maybe that's the problem. I'm also on XPSP3...anyway, I always had to enable this option in KMP so nothing has really changed I guess. KMP and Pot are good players.. but a pity not be able to have more splitter alternatives for ASF files in rest of directshow players.
People think that all HD stuff is contained in MKV/MP4 so matroska/haali is enough... but there are many HD WMV(VC1) content released today and a fast splitter for faster seek of these files is needed.

It is also a fault of the Player. For me build 1436 worked fine for some time, then somehow MKVs were freezing, but mp4 and wmv were find. Now, after upgrading to 1437, MKVs, MP4s and WMVs are freezing. Though they are freezing only with EVR, not with other Renderers. I even tried the videos which were playing fine before. Therefore it is the Players fault as my hardware did not change at all.
Note: while freezing sound continues as it should, only the picture freezes. After clicking the progress bar it continues as it should, until the end of the movie or until it freezes again.

"I could never play a 1080p movie" is not the same as "some builds worked, some not, and only mkv was affected". There was some problems with EVR renderer, yes. Maybe they present even now. However it also looks like described problem can be problem with a splitter. If so, this is also can be user's fault.

The only thing I can say is that the EVR CP in older versions of KMP would randomly freeze the picture if you had the internal video transform filter enabled. But if you ran KMP in SuperSpeed mode, this was solved AFAIK. Too bad the HLSL scaling code in KMP was "borrowed" from MPC and originally written by Haali, and it's got the dreadful "ghost" lines, hah....even in 1:1 btw.
I'm a bit nostalgic of KMP, as I really loved its GUI and the fact that the bottom transport bar didn't disappear after 3 secs...I find this VERY annoying in PotP. But PotP works better in many other areas, such as PCM over S/PDIF...which was a glitch feast in KMP.

Hi guys,
Two problems here:
1) Subtitles in some cases show up after 30 seconds of dialogs. How come? I believe that depends on subtitle format (?) That's very annoying...
2) ffdshow's dxva won't run. Ffmpeg-mt loads instead even if I set the dxva as prefered in custom filter settings.
Besides madVR and reclock work like a charm - best quality ever :)

Something like autozoom: autofit in MPC-HC. This was also possible in KMP.

Instead of installing it "executing" PotPlayer1.5.###.exe you can "open" the file via 7-Zip and then "extract" all folders and files (you may skip $COMMONFILES - $PLUGINSDIR - $SYSIDIR folders) in a desired path.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Daum\PotPlayerMini\RememberFiles] or [RememberFiles] in .ini

Is there anyway for PotPlayer to report video size in ###x### like Kmplayer did when one goes from 1X to any other size (0,5; 1,5; etc)?. I can't find it in the preferences and I get "Screen Size: 1 times" which is not as useful as the proper size in pixels.
Also, the DVD control doesn't seem to be as good as on KMplayer. I was watchin this Family Guy DVD and when one hovers the mouse over the title of an episode it shows a family guy logo letting you know you are about to click on that episode and now it does not show anything. What I mean is that there's no animation in the DVD menus.

There is no direct way to do so with GDI subs. It "sometimes works" when you have ass subs and set PotP to override ass styles. Alternatively you can make PotP to draw subs in every frame (like vsfilter) by setting "TV out"

What I mean is that there's no animation in the DVD menus.
anyone?

@Dexter_prog: if something doesn't work as you want, you can always hop on their forum and ask if they'd consider adding the features you want...their forum is where the party's at :)
BTW, there's a new beta that adds an "open centered" option, but it doesn't really work...I've filled a bug report about it. It requires registration: http://www.sat-universe.com/showpost.php?p=646265&postcount=19

Could someone confirm if the sub -format (microdvd?) subtitles work ok on version 1.5.23336? In my tests text don't seem to appear on time. Converting to srt solves the problem.

Hmm, I don't know how this can be... Make sure there is no such delay in subtitles itself.
I'm 100% positive that there is no delay - source txt show it right (MPC as well).

Skip 30 sec. starting from first 'words' and see what'll happen.

How to 'rewind' when stop a video? In PotPlayer starting the same video again, will resume from last latest point before to stop (if option is enabled in pref > playback). This is strange, in MPC the stop 'erase' the 'last point'. Well, I hope you guys understood what I said. Hard to explain it in my poor english, lol.

Anyone can help me with these two issues?
one: how to make the subtitles show up like MPC HC, see pictures:
http://imgur.com/nBdCA.jpg --> PotPlayer
http://imgur.com/eoItj.jpg --> CCCP latest beta
second: how can you make it play separate OPENING/ENDING files in the same folder?
and oh, is it better to set default video render to AUTO or EVR Custom like MPC HC?
thanks.

I'm using haali as an external filter. (look in the preferences)
You set haali for playing MKV , and then you can use ordered chapter like in MPC HC.

You have to go in the preferences then :
-> filter control
-> Source/Splitter
->then you click on filter management ( on the lower right )
-> Add registered filter
-> select all the haali stuff.
-> click OK.
Now in the source filter list , you can choose haali media splitter for matroska.
And you are done.
Anyway Pot seems to be lacking for ass subtitle support.
I don't see some karaoke , i'm able to see in mpc hc for example.

I see no Haali or Direct Vobsub for that matter, perhaps because CCCP is 32bit only and I am using PotPlayer 64bit version?

Oh I just saw new option "Place video window on the center of the screen". Currently it works weird but overall it looks like workaround for behavior when player has fixed upper-left corner instead of fixed center. Actually I'm sad to see this option because with it there is much less chances to see proper auto-fit (like in KMPlayer with selectable size of the window or MPC-HC without selectable size).

yes this option is completely broken...I've disabled it.

These icons are better than the original 1 just replace the the same dll in the folder
Backup if you think the original is worth keeping
Got this from some Chinese/Korean site i think (who cares?)
