I have a vcd file and it has 2 mono audio tracks on it. One is japanese and the other cantonese. Right now the only way to just hear one of them is to balance the audio to the left or to the right speaker. I want to convert this mpeg to divx. How would i seperate the japanese audio from the cantonese audio? I have cooledit but have no idea how to use it. Is there another way to sepeate them from each other? So fare i have tried making a mono mp3 and tried loading it into dvd2avi and taking one track off but that didnt work. Any suggestions would be grealty appreciated. Thanx

This is way i guess it could be done ( dont fix me on this, i cant check it from here ). If this was an AC3 it would be very easy as BeSweet will offer a function to create mono WAV files from AC3 tracks, but this is MPEG1 layer 2 ( mp2 ) sound ( VCD ) :

- Learn how to use Graphedit . Doom9 Guides are brilliant on this behalf.

- Try to extract the mono stream you want into a mono WAV with Graphedit. It should be possible to set the mp2 audio decoder in Graphedit this way ( i hope )

- Feed the mono WAV into BeSweet Gui and encode to MP3 with Lame. Lame such will allow you to either create mono MP3 or a stereo MP3 file with identical information ( L=R=mono) if you set the according switches in Lame dialog ( page 3 ? ). As this is Joint stereo there is no loss of bitrate as both channels are identical.

Dont know if this will work out but i think it should be possible.

Only alternative :

Maybe TMPEG will allow to decode the mp2 to a mono WAV, for stereo i am sure it can do, but i cant remember a dialog where to set the wanted channels ? Maybe you can demux the mp2 audio stream from the movie before ( again TMPEG or bb_MPEG ) and select a single channel ?
