Is possible to activate Pop-up menu not only trough remote control but by command?
Who know, help!

I don't think there's a command for that... When would you execute it, anyway? The only way to execute commands is by activating a button (in which case, you are already in the pop-up), and at the beginning or end of a PlayList...

What about SetButtonPage?

Weird question! LOL
There's no command to turn on the pop up since commands need to be attached to buttons. If this is the case then you already have your pop-up on

the feature i'm thinking about is to expose graphic in the IG layer in certain points of the movie.
In case of multiplexed IG (always on) it works but only first time play back. If i rewind or make any chapter jump there is no more IG appearance.

Would you need to create lot's of IG Clips and break your film into lot's of segments so that the IG keep's refreshing?

If worked out, this could also be used as white rabbit feature, so that the buttons appear at specific time.

To have button which apears at some time (also for some time) is not an issue. There are released discs like this.

Not in HDMV... (If there are, please let me know which ones, I'd like to check them out...)
All discs I've seen with that kind of feature are all Java programmed. As far as I know, there's no easy way to do this like there was with DVD (just placing buttons on video timeline where you wanted them to appear...)

Yes- in HDMV, we have done 2 titles, which are one the market and work great. There are few more discs from different companies, but I think all of them use the same technique. Sonic can help you with this.
It's not as easy as it looks on DVD. If you do it right it will work fine, but some disc are not done right and don't work well on some players. There is a rule where you can start highligth for the button, otherwise some players won't display it.

Can you name any of the titles that are on the market now? Like I said, I'd love to check them out...
I'm still curious how you turn on a button for a few minutes, turn it off, turn it back on later (and have it do something else), then turn it off, etc throughout a movie... It's not something I've been asked to do yet, so I haven't explored it much detail, I've just been told you couldn't do it without Java programming.

You can do it in HDMV. You need to create multiple IG clips for each segments and use always-on and multiplexed mode for them. Then set start PTS and composition time-out PTS for them. It will work !

Someone was wrong:)
Amelia (modern dance, ballet) and Sylvia (ballet) from Opus Arte (both are in shops, eg Amazon (UK), Naxos, Netflix in (US)).
You use subtitles track and presentation time to have button on for specific time. It's is not easy when you do it 1st time (there are some wired numbers involved), but can be done and does work quite well.

This is not the best way, but should also work :)

Heh, wouldn't be the first time...
The multiple IG trick sounds like it makes sense, but if there's a better way... :)

Cool, I'll have to check one of these out... I'm actually kind of curious about it now. Do you know if Sonic has a knowledge base article about it? I'm not sure what to search for... 'white rabbit' didn't produce any results.
I know someday someone is going to ask if this can be done...

No, they don't have it in their knowledge base, but if you ask support directly they will help you. They know about this method and give some directions.

I got Amelia to look into how this was done... and for nearly half an hour I couldn't even get the feature to work... Being impatient, I didn't bother to read the instructions, I just assumed you pressed 'Enter' when the icon appeared, since that's how all of these kinds of features have worked in the past... :)
Turns out, you have to hit the 'Pop-Up Menu' button during these time frames, and it will jump to a bonus feature. The first commands executed by the Pop-Up menu check to see if you have the 'interactive mode' turned on, if so it reads the Presentation Time of the video you are currently playing, and jumps accordingly. (When you mentioned presentation time below, I thought you meant you used that to tell the player when to turn the button on and off. That had me confused.)
So, if you are in the first 3 minutes, you get the normal Pop-Up, if you are between minute 3 and minute 4, you get a video. If you are in minutes 4-10, Pop-Up. minute 10-11, a video... Etc.
Interesting way of doing it, but it's not making an active button appear at various times throughout the video as you mentioned, it's just a subtitle event. I think the multi-IG technique would be the only way to make it work if you have to use the Enter key as the activation method. Unfortunately for us (authors), when a studio is used a certain type of functionality (especially if it can be done in Java), they pretty much insist in you finding a way to do it the exact same way in HDMV... They don't always get that these two modes are completely different...
Cool stuff though! I love seeing things done in different ways (and it's always great to have an open-minded client willing to let you do creative things).

Hehehe- always RTFM :)
Just get he java programmer and it will be easy :)
BD-J is programming, so "normal" DVD authors can't do it (as many people think they can).
btw... did you like this disc? I'm not a fun of ballet/dance but I did like it- it's very nicely done.

Hi rik,
In the second white-rabbit we did (Sylvia) instead of just showing some cryptic icon we put actual text saying 'Press pop-up on your remote now'
That seemed to do the trick for the unprepared (and the old dogs! :p ).
But as for your clients insisting on the OK button - good job they are not aware of the Red/Green/Yellow/Blue buttons on all BD remotes, designed for the purpose of special features like WR's... Thats definately BD-J only!
I'd really be interested if you go down the route of splitting the video - I guess it rests on if its possible to mux in the IG with the video. I've not tried it myself, and I do hope it comes out seemless for you - certainly more possibilities open up doing it that way.
The only problems we had with the subtitle route is the doubling up of the subtitle streams and giving the artist free range designing the icon - we got a buffer underflow muxing it and had to redesign the icon (it was big and too detailed for the rle encode blu-ray uses). The other issue is just getting the maths right for converting a timecode to a 'Presentation Time'. I got a feeling I've got it wrong for both Amelia and Sylvia and that the last WR's are drifting out...!!! Dont tell anyone...
Nathan.
ps, sorry it took so long to reply - Kolak didnt tell me it takes 5 days after joining before you're allowed to post. grrr
