I red through ur guide and i got some questions and comments if u may :

1)smart ripper isnt working 4 me,no way of using dvddecrepter (worx perfect)
2) in preparing the vob u say press f5 for preview and let it run for a while ,then press esc , now how long is that while ??
3) my frame rate was 2500 and my video type is pal
4) which codec to use codec 3 or 4 ?
and how to set the intervals value and not run into the risk of getting oversized or undersized file ?

well i will be very gratefull if u give me some of ur time to answer my questions:D

What do you mean no way of using dvddecrypter?

>2) in preparing the vob u say press f5 for preview and let it run for a while ,then press esc , now how long is that while ??

Until the values are stable, or at least pretty stable

>3) my frame rate was 2500 and my video type is pal

...thats nice

>4) which codec to use codec 3 or 4 ?

if you read the guides you would see this point discussed

there is always the risk of over and under sized files, you need experience

1) in your guide it sais DO NOT USE dvddecrepter ! i wonder Y
smart rip crashes the computer after it finishes riping the first .vob file and doesnt save that file's size corectly ( it saves 0kb of it )just leaving the name i gave to the file and nothing in it ?i tried this way 3 times once on movie mode and once in file mode...
on the other hand, not all feilds are operational after "that while" the guide talks about and the figures arnt stable !!
2) after i though it got all working ( sins i had a problem getting the sound file of the .avi file ,after i got the sound track in mp3 format i couldnt find the avi file !! )(working with GKNOT and decripting with DVDDECREPTER)
while working with easydivx, i was able to get the avi without the sound   .
Now u can imagin how long did that take doing all those trials :( :o

pittyfull hun heheh
well thanx for ur help dude i really apreciat if i get an end result before my days are over on this planet.

the reason smartripper is highly recommended is that it can do ifo parsing
if it doesnt run stable on your system then its your system thats at fault im afraid as pretty much everyone else is doing fine with it

you could try vstrip.. though it's really not newbie friendly. using dvd decrypter will leave additional stuff in the vobs that you may not want.. like studio logos, fbi warnings, trailers.. that's why you want to use a ripper that does ifo parsing (only smartripper and vstrip do)

as for the while... I suggest a minute.. that's long enough to get reasonable values .. in your case.. when it's pal you can abort immediately.. there's only one kind of pal :)

as for the codec.. there's a bit about them on the main divx guide page.. the place where you decide for a codec. I can't make the decision for you.. whether to use divx3 or 4 is a personal decision each and every divx ripper has to make for his own.. there's been a lot of bad blood about this already. gknot makes using both codecs equally easy so I suggest you try and encode a couple of movies using both codecs, compare the output and then make your decision.

I'd just like to point out that there arent always fbi logo's and stuff on the dvds, and then when there are, they arent always part of the main movie. I never have a problem with any of mine - perhaps its more common to get that kind of stuff in certain areas of the world.

UHT: With regard to your comment:
'If it doesnt run stable on your system then its your system thats at fault im afraid as pretty much everyone else is doing fine with it'

It is never the machine at fault. Some machines just happen to bring out bugs that others dont. I remember a while back with v2.x of my program, I have lots of reports of a bug, but I couldnt find it for the life of me. I have all the debug tools running, and memory checkers and stuff and the little sod just wouldnt show its ugly face! In the end I found a really nice 'hacker' chap who told me roughtly where it was. SmartRipper is full of bugs, it just takes hundreds of different combinations of hardware / software to find them all. SmartRipper is a very complex program, the more Tron adds to it, the worse he makes it. I wouldnt like to have to debug his code.

I'm in the process of backing up my first DVD. The guide that I'm going by said to use DVDdecrypter, and now you all are saying not to. Which is right? Or does it even matter? I saw that someone said DVDdecrypter just leaves more stuff in that you don't need. But can't I take that stuff out with VOBrator? I thought that was my next step.

Thanks for the help.
