Interesting situation.

Bought a new HP D5460 printer with CD/DVD direct printing capability. Also bought a 50 disc spindle of Taiyo Yuden DVD 16X Watershield TYG03. Using Acoustica to develop an image to print. Text and photos spectacular – BUT – there are marks on the disc that coincide with the way the disk slides into and out of the printer. These marks are about 1/16 in thick and in four bands spaced about one inch apart. My guess is there are pads or rollers on the top of the slot for the disc that hold the disk down as it moves into and out of the printer.
The marks do not appear on the blank inkjet printable CD that came with the printer (could it be because CD discs are thinner than DVD???) or on an ordinary DVD not inkjet capable).
Taiyo Yuden tech support claims their discs are no thicker than anyone else’s (does their Watershield not add any thickness?) and the fault lies with the printer.
HP tech support claims there’s nothing wrong with the printer, just incompatible media.
The four streaks are dim, but definitely noticeable, and, therefore, disconcerting.
Has anyone else had this situation with any other printers or media?

Are the disks still wet when being output from the printer?

NO - they are dry. The streaks are not visible in all light angles so they don't show unless you tilt the disc.

Hi old guy old knowlage.
the Old/First inkjets had this prob for these reasons.

1. set the printer to tranpancy ie OHP films or Glossy paper. this could lift some feeder wheel used for traction on regular mat paper printing.

2. Use a slower speed setting to print, if not a setting on the control pannel, try a higher print quality setting, this will tend to be slower and give the ink more time to dry before hitting the rollers.

3. is print head alinement. there should be a util in the printer control pannel or other util, which will print a test pattern for you to look at, follow the instructions, set aside some time.

4. This sounds odd, but the resolution of the origanal image does not mach the dpi of the printer, and you are getting artifacts at the time it prints.

dont know if helps but - boB
