View Full Version : EVO-AVI conversion going wrong :(

Hi, I've really been having a really hard time with this conversion for nearly a couple of weeks now and I'm honnestly begining to lose the plot now. I have followed as many gides as closely as I can but nothing seems to be working :(

I create AV compositions using "sampled" Video footage and I desperately want to work with a scene from AAWIL HD but I cant for the life of me find a way to encode the EVO files from the disc to AVI, the AVI files I need dont have to have audio, they do have to be as lossles a conversion as possible at 1080P

Would any of you mind taking me through a step by step of what I need to do?

The lengths I've been going through to get this AVI have been hugely stressfull and I've almost given up but as a last resort I spent the last couple of days creating the scene from frame by frame screen shots 4117 each captured individually from power dvd, it only half worked because power dvd skips every other frame, the resulting footage was only 12fps, so is hard to watch.

I would really appreciate your help, I'll be very prompt to reply and I'll follow any sugestions very closely, if you can help please post.

Here's a split from the evo file http://www.mediafire.com/?zyllzjz1ito

Here is what I would do.

1. Get the evo files decrypted with DumpHD or AnyDVD.
2. Download EAC3TO and extract the video and audio into MKV
3. Convert to AVI

eac3to should have told you if there were errors. Can you post its output?

yep, I'll grab it now.

I tried to use virtualdubmod to convert the mkv file to avi, but it returned an error saying:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format WVC1' (unknown)
Virtualdub requires a VFW (video for windows) codec to decompress video.

I'm not sure what to do now though.

The MKV file is fine. It is a container holding Microsoft VC-1 video and several "Dolby Digital Plus (TM)" audio tracks (and some subtitles). AVI is a container, like MKV. Do you want to put VC-1 in AVI?

ni-cad
16th July 2009, 04:50
Hi, yes just the video - VC-1 to avi, I don't need the audio as I ripp the audio signal seperatly to a digital audio workstation.

It might be possible to do this in Virtualdub with 'direct stream copy', but I do not know. I would download ffmpeg (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ffmpeg) and run it with the command line ffmpeg.exe -i E:\convert.mkv -vcodec copy -an -sn E:\vid.avi

But when I try that, I get "non-monotone timestamps"

ni-cad
16th July 2009, 05:25
Same here, unfortunately I get the same "non-monotone timestamps error".

The Virtualdubmod error point's to a VFW codec being missing, I've since installed the Klite codec pack which includes the VFW matrosca codec but I stilll have no playback and the same error message. I also got these errors whan haali media splitter was installed.

Extract the video ES (don't make an MKV) and then use this:

Thanks both of you.

How would you recomend I split the VC-1 from the evo file?

Would evodemux be a good bet? I think it will extract the VC-1, but I wanted to ask how you would go about it just in case?

neuron2

Evodemux.

ni-cad

:( it didn't work, something is seriously wrong here.

I demuxed just the VC-1 streem in evodemux, that is I deselected all the audio and sub pictures leaving only the VC-1 selected, I then set the output file extension to vc-1 and demuxed the evo.

The VC-1 file was created.

Then I opened the VC-1 ES to AVI Muxer and navigated to the VC-1 folder and it didn't see the VC-1 file at all, so I selected "all files" then it showed up and I hit convert.

The AVI file was created and it has data inside it, it's 4gig but it wont play in anything, I tested it in Adobe after effects, Power dvd, AVS v-converter.

Personally I think there's some kind of problem with the EVO file it'self, like it's missiing time stamps or something and tsmuxer says it cant detect any fps field.

Post a link to a 50-100MB sample of the EVO. Cut it with DGSplit and upload it to mediafire.com.

@ni-cad

Hi!

While "neuron2" is analyzing the sample you'll be uploading for him, a question and a suggestion if I may:

1) How did you "rip" (remove the copy protection) from your "An American Werewolf in London" HD-DVD?

2) In my opinion, the simplest/surest way to extract ONLY the VC-1 videostream from the ripped EVO would be to load it into "tsMuxeR", DEselect/UNcheck all other streams (audio and subtitles), so that the only stream with a check mark is the VC-1 stream - and then (at the bottom of the window)select "Demux".

ni-cad
16th July 2009, 08:18
hi, setarip_old.

I'll give tsmuxer a crack at extracting the VC-1 stream now.

I ripped the entire contents of the disc including the evo's using Anydvd.

I also tried opening the disc in windows explorer and draging just the evo feature files but the apps I'm using didn't seem to like those files so I continued to ripp the whole disc using anydvd,

Should I try something different, maybe HDDump?

I don't know how relevent this might be but the log in tsMuxer says VC-1 stream does not contain fps field. Muxing fps=29.97
Decoding VC-1 stream (track 1): Profile: Advanced@3 Resolution: 1920:1080i Frame rate: 29.97

setarip_old

Ripping it with "AnyDVD-HD" is fine.

Decoding VC-1 stream (track 1): Profile: Advanced@3 Resolution: 1920:1080i Frame rate: 29.97That should have no bearing on what you're trying to accomplish.

BTW - My own personal curiosity - Where did you find (and at what price) the "An American Werewolf in London" HD-DVD?

ni-cad
16th July 2009, 08:36
Hmm, Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/American-Werewolf-London-HD-DVD/dp/B000PMGRIW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1247726629&sr=8-1, it's a bad print though, I'll try and get a screen shot up in a sec.

The fully restorred Blu-ray version is out on september the 15th, I'm only using this version for my composition because I can do a decent restoration job in After effects myself, ie de-noise/remove the grain etc . . . . If I can get it in AE.

setarip_old
16th July 2009, 08:46
If I can get it in AE.What formats does "After Effects" accept for input?

**EDIT** Just did a quick bit of research and noted that "After Effects" will accept M2Ts files for input/import. Therefore, if it'll help you, you could have loaded the EVO into "tsMuxeR", DEselected ALL streams EXCEPT the VC-1 stream - and then select "M2TS" instead of "Demux"...

[/Color]

After effects doesn't really like m2ts, it's listed as being supported but it's not, you'll only have a limited succes with m2ts in AFX, some will work most wont, these evo's cirtainly dont.

Have you guys had any luck with the evo file I uploaded?
